Veterans Preference

What ever happened to the veterans preference with government jobs? My spouse and myself are both vets and no one will even give us a first or for that matter a second glance. I have tried to contact everyone and there mother for assistance with this matter and nothing. I don't know how much more of this I can take. Where is the justice in this society that a vet can't even find a single job that's not a pizza delivery job. I have to admit that this is messing with my PTSD so bad.

My advice is to print whatever job description you're applying for on USAJOBS read all the way to the bottom and make sure under "required documents" you submit everything they ask for! Often times, each job wants different forms.

Also, the systems they use for reviewing resumes are computer automated to look for key words only. This includes the system most states and localities use. So read the job description and if it says like "clerical, data, entry, administrative, etc" or some other term that is not in your resume, be sure to go back to your resume and include those words. The resumes that the computer finds with those key words are moved to the top, then the veterans preference is moved to the very top.

Hope this helps, you can write me back if you need anything specific.

HuntingDog22 - Don't get too discouraged, it took me a year to get into the GS system. Just keep trying. PM me if you would like assistance.

No worries...your blessings are forthcoming!

Thus, stay the course and remain strong!

Best Wishes!

Huntingdog22, as long as you an your wife have college should have no problem. I just retired 25Feb13, and last monday I started my Federal Job as a Parole Officer in Tx for 65K. I was so qualified that I had somewhere around 30 jobs, with no less than 45K. God bless you both and hope you find what you are looking for. Good Luck and there are alot of Veteran Job Fairs coming up around the country in the next month.
