Hey all,

New to this process and there is so much information out there it is completely overwhelming sometimes. I will be submitted for a MEB from Mental Health but they don't know the process very well. Here is what has happened so far.

~2021 - Diagnosed with depression at an off-base doctor (GSU), started taking meds and going to a counselor
Oct 2022 - PCS to new duty station, start seeing mental health to continue working on medication
Jan 2023 - Sent to inpatient mental health services for a mental breakdown
Feb 2023 - Start taking medication that is deemed unfit for service if taken longer than 6 months
Mar 2023 - Mental health provider writes NARSUM, submits to AMRO board
27 Apr 2023 - Mental health provider informs me AMRO board says to push forward with MEB, should receive information from a PEBLO in the coming weeks

What can I realistically expect at this point in time? I am located in a large city with multiple VA locations, so I am hoping these go quickly. Mental health has diagnosed me with MDD and PTSD. I also have multiple other medical conditions that she told me to discuss during this process. I don't know what to expect or where to go for answers as each page seems to have something different.

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Everything totally depends, but now that you are in the full MEB you should get a call soon for claim development, after that you will do your VA appointments (some take 60 days, some weeks, mine took only like 2 wks), then the full MEB takes up to a month (btw consider adding more unfitting conditions if you have any via PCM), then the IPEB takes a few weeks, then the VA claims can take another few months (I was quoted 60 days) then maybe another month to process etc.

The process takes forever and there are so many ways to get delayed along the way!

Thank you for the insight! What would qualify for unfitting conditions? I have multiple conditions that I have diagnosed via PCM. These include hearing loss, tinnitus, IBS, migraines, sleep apnea, and a trail of sleep issues. These are in addition to the PTSD and MDD.

I would try to get all of them added. Worst thing the PCM or PEB can do is say no. They will at least add a % to your VA rating even if the DOD doesn’t add them.
