Where am I in the process

So the day after I checked out on leave my finding came in! 40% DoD, 80% VA. I’m totally surprised about being retired, and now there are several things I’m unsure about. I know now my family and I get continuing insurance, but what happens with pay, because everything I’ve read is saying the way to calculate retirement pay makes my monthly pay look not so great. Does the VA pay the difference between retirement and the 80% or am I SOL?

80% VA is around 1750.00 give or take a few dollars depending on your personal situation. Dependents etc. You will have to pay a premium for continued tricare.

Right, with dependents I’ll get around 1900, but 40% of my high three for retirement pay would be way less than that; so I’m wondering does the VA bridge that gap, or am I just going to get my retirement pay and need to figure out how to supplement my income?

The way I had it explained to me was unless certain situation applied to you, (such as you retire over 20) you will just get paid at the 80% rate from the VA. What I was told ultimately will happen in the background, is the DOD will send your retirement checks to the VA and then the VA will calculate the difference and send you one check. Which will be for the 80%. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but that is what I was told by the not so helpful PEBLO.

Well I hope you’re right, because that would be amazing.

Most likely you will get the VA 80%. If your retirement were more you would get the higher amount with with only the difference being taxed, in your situation 1900 is the most you would get per month.

So I just got off the phone with the VA and they can’t send me my proposed ratings because she said my case wasn’t done on their side yet. So I look on ebenefits, I have a claim closed on Dec 8th and notification sent out and I also have another claim pending decision approval again under works in process. Has anyone had that happen to them before? They are both for all of the same claims so I don’t understand why another would be opened up...
Mine looks the same way, one cased shows closed, another showing , Pending Decison Approva/.

So if my unfit findings were sent to the VA a few days before thanksgiving when can I expect to get my ratings?

Does anyone have the number to the VA on the military side?? Not civilian?

Thats what they were telling me because Ive had no movement on my claim via Ebenefits since August my unfit findings were sent a few days before thanksgiving and there has been no movement so I asked her and she said that there is a civilian side and a military... also once you get your ratings back how long can they project out the EAS date?

So fun update, last week on Monday I called the PEB to get my index number, they said they didn't have it yet and that my case had been selected for QA, so I should anticipate another 30 days before I end up with a new EAS. I was bummed but was like 'ok a couple more paychecks can't hurt'. Well yesterday as I'm perusing my MOL, HELLO new EAS January 30th. I'm so excited but also insanely frustrated that I was given the wrong information. Like if the PEB was unsure, I would have preferred they tell me they didn't have any information rather than just say 'add 30 days to whatever you were thinking'. However I am keeping the complaining to a minimum because I am FINALLY at the end of the road!

Wow! January 30th is really close! You could probably request a later date if you feel like you need more time. Congratulations on finally reaching the end of the road!

I considered it, but after talking to my husband, it really isn't going to make a huge difference between now and then, so Friday will be my last day! No it's just a matter of getting that last paycheck and all that other good stuff!

I'm glad that worked out for you then! I hope your transition goes smoothly.
