hello everyone im new here so i thought i'd post this here...anyway my meb package was sent off last month for generalized anxiety disorder..it has affected every part of my duties and my personal life also. i also suffer from panic attacks and am on 2 types of medication for my anxiety and ambien for sleep problems caused by my anxiety, which im not being boarded for since it was not severe enough to interfere with my life. my doctor had stated it was significantly exasperated by military service in my narsum. anyway my case met the local board about a month and a half ago and they had recommended to the ipeb. it says on my report that i am being boarded for severe anxiety and that LOD-YES..and that it had incurred while entitled to...
I was approved for military length of service retirement on 1 December 2000.I retired from the military on 1 November 2001 based on 20 years of service. I started to become real sick before my retirement. Fortunately I had 92.5 days terminal leave saved up and was granted an additional 30 days permissive TDY. I was examined and deemed disabled by the Social Security Office effective 1 July 2001 which is prior to my retirement date. I also was/am rated totally and permanently disabled by the Department of Veterans Affairs effective retroactive to my my military retirement 1 November 2001. I get military length of service retirement is there any way to go back and request disability from the service component? Or would that even be...
quick question again everyone...i meant to do this as a reply but i couldnt find my post...anyway..what exactly would be a deciding factor to the PEB that the the mental disorder existed prior to service? and if it was..how does the board react to the disorder being "significantly exasperated" by military service. also if my doctor also stated that my prognosis is guarded..so basically i could get better or worse. what are your thoughts?
I've been in the Air Force for just over two years. I'm currently in the DES Pilot Program and my package has been @ AFPC since Jan 2010. I have a Herniated L5-S1 w/Stenosis and paresthesias w/left foot drop. My ROM exam was almost 15 across the board. Does anyone have an educated guess on what the outcome may be? Sitting in limbo. Thank You All.
My MEB story, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a TSgt at 14.5 years in the AD Air Force, in 2004, DKA/ hospital stay when init DX, yada, yada (good times, not). Anyway, they boarded me, the informal came back as to separate with 20% and here's a check for 60K or so to sucker me with. I told them to stick it, and that I will see the formal board at Lackland. I then learned all the AFI's, DODI's, US Code, you name it. I contacted every previous commander I could find I ever worked with for a letter of support. I contacted every functional manager I ever had or knew and got a letter of support, as well as previous supervisors, chiefs, and retired chiefs. All told I had about 25 letters of support. Then I found verbiage in one of...
Hello everyone! I just got my NARSUM and ROM done on Friday, Feb 19. I need some help understanding. My Flexion looks like 20% but my Extension and L & R lateral look like more than that. Is your ROM the ONLY thing they base your rating on?? My active ROM was: Flexion: 37.33 Extension: -8.33 L Lateral Flex: 9 R Lateral Flex: 13 My passive ROM was: Flexion: 36 Extension: -6 L Lateral Flex: 9.33 R Lateral Flex: 12.67 My NARSUM describes my condition as "Spndylolithesis with pars defect and degenerative changes" The doctor put in there she recommends being discharged because my conditions will not improve and the "physical demands" of the military will only worsen my conditions. :( No sure what to do from here. I really dont know...
Hello all. I have a fairly complicated situation, that has given rise to many questions on my part. To start off, I was regular active duty for 8+ years, went into the reserves for a year and a half or so, then came back into regular active duty under the CG's Temporary Separation program. While I was in the reserves, I was promoted to O-4, but once I swore back in as a regular, I had to revert to O-3. Also, when I left active duty the first time, I submitted a claim to the VA and was rated at 40%, 10% of which was due to depression. Now that I've set the stage, I have two questions, with the assumption that I'm found unfit and get severance, vice retirement. 1) After my VA claim was done, my depression was rediagnosed as bipolar...
Hi Everyone, A young airman (friend of mine) was informed of results from the IPEB to receive 10%. This was due to cancer incurred while going through training. Some of the civilian oncologist/cancer specialist reports/letters did NOT make it into the package. I encouraged them to proceed with the formal PEB. This date is now rapidly approaching (received word today) that the formal PEB will occur in the second week of March in San Antonio Texas. The airman was told that they could attend the PEB. PEBLO at the base is not very forthcoming. And we BOTH have questions. 1. Should the individual attend the formal PEB in San Antonio? 2. Who, if anyone, should attend with the airman? 3. How can this person prepare for...
I have been on TDRL for an injured L1-L2 spinal fusion done while on active duty in the navy for 5 years. I just had my last review and instead of remaining 40% they rated me at 20% and want to seperate me with the disability severance. My 5 years are up so I am no longer receiving TDRL pay. And have been really struggling to make ends meet. My back pain has left me unable to work at all since I was seperated in Dec 2004. I am undecided if I should accept the severance pay or to fight it, I have 1 week left to respond.I am receiving health care from the VA at the moment and single so I am not worried about health insurance, my main concern is the money. Since I cannot work and no longer receiving TDRL. The money is tempting me since I...
All- I have been nursing my back for some time now and have recieved about 40 days of bedrest from my doctor in the past few months. I have been reviewing alot of the forums and see that alot of back pain sufferers are only getting 10%, which makes me nervous about my own viability in a meb/peb. Does the Army normally rate incapacitating episodes IAW the 38 CFR? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
MEB just came back. I have three choices. Get out, Non-Duty Related PEB or Duty Related PEB. My problem is my Unit never conducted a LOD when I got back from deployment when I was Active. Currently in the Reserve. My unit is telling my they can't do a LOD now plus they don't know how. The civilians that handles the PEB process says my unit can. Any advice
I just signed the papers for my case to be sent to the IPEB, we're waiting on my NARSUM to be re-done. I'm wondering if anybody knows what I can do at this point. My doc and the VA are expecting me to be discharged with 10-30% and I'm trying to figure out somewhere to go once I'm out. I want to apply for jobs, look for apartments and all that before I get out so I have somewhere to go. My PEBLO says it should be May/June time frame, if not sooner. I'm from SC but trying to go to NC. I want to apply for jobs and claim veteran's preferance because my VA rep told me I should claim but I dont know how to secure a job since I'm not there for an interview. I'm going to need somewhere to go when this thing is over. Does anybody know how to...
Hello I am a AGR officer with the national guard Title 32. I have been AGR for about 13 years. I have a total of abotu 17 years service when you include drilling guard time. I am now suffering from a back injury and PTSD. Can anyone tell me if I qualify for medical retirement? If I get 30% or higher disability from the Army will I get a retirement check and Tricare for life? I am really confused because alot of people say you have to have a certain amount of years for medical retirement.
I have bulging disks, spinal stenosis, and disc dissication . I have seen my PCP, a pain specialist, and a neurologist. My question is, a nurse practitioner has prescribed 2 wks of my bedrest. Can anyone tell me if that works for the VA or PEB? I am not sure they are classified as a physician.
Well I am going to be seperated here soon and put on the TDRL and I was rated 40%. I have been doing as much reading as possible on the TDRL, but I am lost and scared. I am starting to really stress cause all I have known is the Marine Corp for the past 11+ years. Does anyone have any advice for me on like what to expect next. My pay is going to be cut in half now so I am going to be forced to get a job which I am not sure how its gonna work with my conditions. Thanks
I just received a copy of the DES Pilot Program VA narrative summary providing my disability rating percentage. I was rated 30% for my MEB referred cluster/migraine headaches. The total rating is 60% including the remaining service connected, but not unfitting conditions. I received the DA 199 (without disability rating) from the PEB prior to it being sent to the VA for disability rating. I am now waiting for my PEBLO to return the PEB's disability rating on the DA 199. My questions: What will the PEB most likely determine? 30% retirement, or might I get a higher percentage? I believe my headaches should be classified at 50% because the "attacks [are] productive of severe economic inadaptability." I believe that my medical...
What exactly is a RILO? Why is it used instead of a MEB? Most importantly WHO makes the determination on a RILO? I currently have uncontrolled moderate asthma that was just diagnosed a few weeks ago.. I haven't been given an opportunity for it to stabilize and get under control with the medication. Nor has the PCM included degenetarive disc disease in the MEB request. They are now trying to push a RILO and get a return to duty so they can PCS me to Korea in a month. How is this even possible? So frustrated.
Hello I have currently been in the navy for 14 1/2 years. I currently have a severe knee injury as well as a severe neck injury both will require surgery to fix. Since I have such a long service in the navy I am wondering what will occur if one of the 3 surgeries are not successful (the knee requires 2 surgeries). I am currently on my 1st LIMDU. At 14 and 1/2 years will I be entitled to 2 LIMDU then referred to a medboard approx at the 16 year mark? If so if I am on TDRL does this count for my total service? For example say I have 16 years in when I am placed on TDRL does each year count toward retirement or do I need to be fit for duty to continue my retirment tracker? At the 16 year mark active will 4 years in TDRL make me...
I joined in Feb 2008 and planned on 20+ in service! In Tech school (June 2008) my hips started hurting me and was put on profile. Since then I've been on and off profile and was finally diagnosed in June 2009 with Spondylolisthesis, Degenerative Disk Disease, Arthritis, Bulging Disk and pinched nerves. I cannot stand for long periods of time, no running, no lifting, no type of exercise and normally cant walk more than 50 ft! I also have problems standing to clean my house, walk up and down stairs, wash dishes ect.....I've done Chiropractic and Physical Therapy but nothing helps. I cannot do any form of PT and my doc put me up for MEB in Aug 2009. I'm currently waiting on the narritive summary from my doc and then my case goes to Texas...
