When can we PCS

I'm in the process of being med boarded. Been found unfitting and a couple of months into waiting for initial ratings. I'm just wondering when I'll be able to do my final PCS. I'm actually staying semi-close (within 50 miles probably), but I want to use it to break my lease (I made a really bad choice while on gabapentin T.T).

You won't be PCS-ing, rather separating. You can break any lease once you receive your orders to separate/retire.

You receive orders a few weeks/months after accepting ratings correct?

What is "home awaiting orders"? I am going through a MEB myself but just starting out the process. I recently got married and my wife is in Florida while I am in Turkey. It is very hard to be away from her especially since we just got married. Is home awaiting orders a faster way back to her and how do I go about doing it?

What branch of the military are you serving in?

4.7.3. Leave Awaiting Orders. Charge leave as accrued and accruing when the

commander sends a member home or to another location in a PCS status to await orders

for disability separation. Charge any remaining time as an authorized absence after the

member uses all accrued leave.

One potential issue could be you're OCONUS.

So basically, they can PCS me as long as I have leave. I currently only have 5 days of leave accrued. I enjoy seeing my wife once every few months. I meet all the criteria for the application. I am just kind of confused on the process. I read this...

4.9. Travel.

A member may PCS to any designated place in the CONUS if he or she has completed 8 years continuous active duty with no single break of more than 90 days just before PEB evaluation. If the member does not have 8 years continuous active service, he or she may go PCS only to the home of record or the place where ordered to active duty. Travel to the nonmilitary address must meet the rules set forth in the Joint Federal Travel Regulation (JFTR), Volume 1.

Does this mean I can return to my Home of Record and be home with my wife sooner? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you're planning to to go your HOR your years of service shouldn't matter. However, you may want to speak with legal and admin and see if there is a way for you to be returned faster. Home awaiting orders may take a while and may also not be approved.

Ok. Is that why I have never heard of it before? Is it hard to get approved and when should I apply for it?

Bigmitch,
Don't quote me, no regulation in front of me, but from what I remember once a SM has agreed (accepted) the PEB findings it can be applied for. I had S-1 draft my request early so the day I accepted my FPEB findings they sent the request off. I had approval within 7-14 days, had already attended TAPS prior, and simply checked out before my retirement date was set. It didn't end up making a difference for me because right after I checked out my retirement date and orders came in. That was in 2010.

That is if you are getting medically retired. If you are just starting the process, you do not now if you are getting medically seperated or retired yet, until you are offered your ratings. Two different set of rules and benefits for the two. The will not PCS you from your overseas location until your MEB is complete, unless you are doing a remote OCONUS tour.
