Severance Pay Eligibility

Hello,

I am in the process of waiting for my PEB duty determination. Per my meeting with the IDES lawyer, it’s most likely I’ll be found unfit at 70%.

My SFC asked if I would be eligible for severance pay and I was confused because I don’t remember it coming up during my conversations with my PEBLO.

Can someone explain what this is and if I would be eligible? It would be helpful as I’m relocating with my family from KY to FL.

30% DOD unfitting or higher = medical retirement. Less than 30% DOD unfitting = discharged with severance. No benefits just a one time check.

No DoD retirement benefits (unless less than 30% DoD but 100% P&T VA). You still would receive VA benefits.

Okay. So I wouldn’t be eligible for severance pay if I end up with anything over 30% on the DoD side. Severance is only for DoD ratings under 30%, correct? Thank you for explaining because I was very confused.

Correct. And it will only be multiples of 10. So for severance, a DoD rating of 0%, 10%, or 20%.
