CRSC Filing Question Dealing w/Cancer

If one was to file for CRSC under the PACT Act for prostate cancer and become approved, my assumption would be that one would be approved for 100% CRSC, right? So how does CRSC work once one is approved for it, does that decision stick indefinitely or/who would reevaluate the CRSC decision in the future. What I’m getting at is, if one is 100% CRSC approved for “active” prostate cancer. What happens on the CRSC side when the cancer goes into remission? I understand what they do on the VA side, reduce the 100% and then can be rated under residuals. Curious on how the CRSC % works as one has active cancer and when it goes into remission, who keeps track of it, or do they even keep track of it. Thanks!

Interesting question.

As a person who had active prostate cancer, then surgery, and eventual biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer I can offer the following:
—I have never heard of prostate cancer being in remission. It seems either one has it or they don’t.
—the 100% for PC continues until the final treatment.
—six months after the final treatment, the veteran is rated for residuals which will be a lower rating. That impacts CRSC.
—A biochemical recurrence of PC will result in a new 100% rating. That is my current status. I have Active Surveillance

I reported all these changes to the VA and when my VA ratings changed, I would submit a request TO the Army for reconsideration regarding CRSC. Up or down .

Valid question and chances are, it isn't tracked. The only way there would be an adjustment is if you submit for other claims at which time they could pull a current VA Code Sheet and see the changes in your rating(s). Set it and forget it has been my experience over the years.

Great question. I’m in the same boat.

My experience:

Once I no longer had a diagnosis of active prostate cancer, I reported it to both the VA and the Army CRSC board .

The VA: I submitted a request for evaluation of the residuals and once they were approved, I reapplied for CRSC (to Army) via
Request for Reconsideration .

The Army (for CRSC):
once the residuals were approved, I reapplied for CRSC (to Army) via
Request for Reconsideration .

I did not use the VA for any of my treatments.

I had a question related to this: I had cancer removed this year and it was recently determined to be in remission. I was not treated at the VA, but did forward them all of the paperwork and labs. I was examined by the VA and notified that my 100% rating associated with the cancer will cease and I'll go back to my original rate beginning in 10/24.

Since the cancer is in remission (for now), I know that goes to 0% until there is a recurrence. I was awarded 10% for a painful scar by the VA I submitted my paperwork to the Army in May 24 to have cancer factored into my CRSC, but I was not judged to be in remission until August or September 24. I still haven't received a decision from the initial cancer filing. I am under active surveillance, as well.

I'm trying to figure out if the Army will just rate me for the 10% for the scar, or for the cancer that was present at the time I filed (paperwork received by the Army 25 May 24). I'm 100% P&T from the VA, 90% CRSC from the Army. I expect that it would be 10%, resulting in no increase from 90%. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I hope that you all are successful in keeping cancer at bay.

I can tell you that when HRC gets to your case, they WILL pull a current code sheet to see what your current ratings are, so seeing they're running 5-6 months, it'll be a close shave either way.

Thank You! That percentage is not enough to change the CRSC percentage, right? Since I'm at 90%, that would be 10% of the remaining 10%? So the 91% would be rounded down to 90%?

Correct (using only the two percentages mentioned).

90% + 10%

Cumulative Disability: 91%
Total Combined Disability Rating: 90%

One last question: I was notified today that the Army awarded me 100%, how would I figure out what 100%? I'm currently at 90% which equals $1960.

Hello.

In December I mentioned:
Your current CRSC will be the lesser of
— item 5, longevity amount
OR
—the approved CRSC percentage rate using the VA comp tables for amounts for vet and applicable dependents
current tables are at: 2024 Veterans disability compensation rates | Veterans Affairs <—-LINK
*At the time* “A review of the VA comp tables shows the longevity amount will be your CRSC.”

The same formula applies to your new CRSC rating @100%.

You're already maxed out at $1960, so there will be no further increases in the amount you get for CRSC other than annual COLA bumps.
