Existed Prior to Service (EPTS)

EPTS can is often a very irritating issue to the soldier. One needs to remember that is means Existed Prior to Service.
If your MEB/PEB results come back saying the disability is EPTS, do not accept the decision unless you know for a fact they are correct.
Otherwise make them show you where the condition existed on the enlistment physical. If it's not there, it's not EPTS.
When you signed that enlistment contract it was an agreement not only binding you but also binding your branch of service. They accepted you the way you were at the moment you signed the contract.
You could have broken your leg the day you entered active duty on the way to basic. That is now their problem, it is NOT EPTS.
Remember, while you have to prove your disability, the military MUST prove EPTS. If you stand up for yourself, rarely can they find evidence of true EPTS that you are not already aware of.

I had a condition when I was 7 that required major brain surgery.At 17,I went and saw a recruiter. He told me to get a release from the doc who did the surgery. I did and was accepted into service. Fastforward 31 years and brain was again necessary for same reason. This time only much more work needed to be done.many complications and 7 surgeries(brain) a stroke, and a seizure
later,and 2 years of convalescent leave I met the informal and they lowballed me.I had over 20. I appealled and brought a high priced private attorney with me and was granted 70% by the board. The VA then upped that.
So this talk of EPTS has me confused

The purpose of my post was mainly aimed at the folks with 4 years or less in service.So this talk of EPTS has me confused
I've been reading of a lot of young folks put out under EPTS that should have received much more, had they known the rules.
