Adjustment Disorder news

I would think you need to extend again...if you haven't gotten your unfit memo back yet, you are still looking at potentially up to a year. I am speaking from an Army perspective though. As a nurse case manager for the MEB soldiers I am given access to the IDES stats each week and the latest is still right at a year.

It is highly likely you'll need to extend. If it were me, I'd get the extension. That way, you're covered.

I had to extend three times, but last extension only lasted three months and then I was finally retired from IDES.

I took one year extensions.

Thanks, and I have received my unfit. I received the C&P and unfit memo the same day all of us went dormant because of the CAD. That's why I was wondering about it. My PEBLO called me the same day I received my paperwork and told me about the delay. Still, only 138 days...... I wonder if this will be resolved, you know?

I can tell you that it wouldn't be anywhere near a year at my army MTF. Once you are uploaded to the PEB, assuming they get this AD issue under control, our region gets the preliminary memo out within a couple of days. Once they've done that, it also goes to the VA, you can expect the "180 days" that the VA says it's averaging to begin. Once back to the PEB, the DA199 generally comes out within 2 weeks.
As to the medical extension, we get medical extensions started about 60-80 days out, and that's plenty of time.

Has there been anymore talk, or do we have anymore information on how long this nonsense is going to take to get fixed? All I had left to get were my orders, then all this happened. I'm now seeing people say it's going to take another half a year?? Any help or information would be wonderful.

Another month is about to be over and our lives still in the limbo ahgrrrr!!!! So frustrated right now. This goverment is so incompetent. Can't wait to move on with my life and this stupid issue keep preventing me from so. I guess it will take this fckrs 6 mths to figure it out a piece a paper. Sorry for outrage this waiting timeline it's just getting ridiculous

So, I called my PEBLO today asking about my status. We'll ... still in hold because the adjustment disorder. VA rated me already and my 199 is done but I may get medical retirement now because the adj dsdr. I have a federal law enforcement job line up and they are tracking cause I provide them with the letter of acceptance. She said that the PEB is considering doing an exception because of my job offer but she hasn't heard anything yet from the PEB. She told me today that I could call the Wounded Warrior Support hotline and that they may be able to help me doing an inquiry and that may help me. Does anybody know anything anything about this? Will this be resolve before Oct this year?

Hey guys, unfortunately we are just as much in the dark. There are not too many days I don't squawk about this to my supervisor, or anyone that'll listen for that matter. What we are getting is essentially the silent treatment from OTSG. What was supposed to be a SecDef signature "this afternoon" has turned into this lengthy ordeal. The worst of it is each day more soldiers are being added to the list with still no idea in mind what to tell them. It really pisses many of us the f@#k off. They don't seem to care because they aren't the ones having to talk to you everyday, or apologize to you for being so f'd up, even though we aren't the reason for the problem. To me this is no different than the sequester. They don't care because they are not affected. Our government and leaders have lost all touch with the reality of being a common citizen. Sorry, I vent here since no one in my collective higher seems to care. Just know we are with you in this and will do whatever possible to ease this thing. Just an FYI, things will be slowing down. Furloughs are coming to the MEB/PEB beginning in July with our time being cut a full day every week.

PEBLO11,

Appreciate the status updates (and I sympathize with your frustration, being the messenger that interfaces directly with the Soldier and therefore, are the "face" of the system. I can't imagine that is anything but maddening)!

It's true Jason. Not many people like having to apologize for crap we didn't do, don't like, or agencies we don't even work for (VA). I figure no one else will do it though, so I will for those too gutless to answer the hard questions. I love my job, and it pains me to have to tell folks that they're having to put their lives on hold because of bureaucratic B.S.

I totally agree with you PEBLO11. Like you, I am so frustrated having to constantly tell my soldiers that there is no movement or even a dimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. I enjoy being able to help SMs through this process however, right now I like the bearer of constant bad news.

In my opinion, PEBLO11 and Sascha Roberson are truly "leaning forward in the foxhole" to ensure that military personnel within the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process are receiving the latest well-needed information whether they are receptive to the feedback or not!

Now, that takes true dedication, courage and discipline since they are constantly not aware of how the IDES case member is going to react to continuously undesirable news!

With that all said, I salute you both, and thanks for all that you do! ;)

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

I second this and want to express my gratitude as well....I have got more help from Sascha than my own peblo, and we arent even in the same state....outstanding

I would have to agree with all the kudos being sent towards Sacha and Peblo11. My PEBLO strikes me as one that goes home and doesn't even give a thought to the soldiers she is tasked to aid. I have been told"that doesn't matter" and "
don't worry, we'll get it taken care of later" and such BS that I wish I could request another PEBLO. I don't know if this is within my rights or if it would be like sending your food back and having the cook spit on it. You have to wonder if you raise hell if somehow someone is going to exact revenge on your packet, you know? So, I just fly in the holding pattern like a good soldier. I haven't even had a call from my PEBLO since this delay started with the CAD. That's a professional for you. As of today, I have sent letters to my Senators asking them to look into the furloughs that I have been told about. With the backlog as huge as it is, causing more by allowing a nonexistent sequester to take effect on the soldiers who risked their lives for this country is not allowable. I have used social media to ask all of my "friends" to do the same. If this is allowed to take place, the snowball effect will cause countless more bottlenecks and downright stopppages. We deserve better and we have to stand up and say so every so often. Please, I know you guys aren't afraid of writing a letter on our behalf. Let's bury them with the paper they are trying to bury us with.

First I want to say thank you to the PEBLO's here. Without your information I would have never known why my case was taking so long. With that being said I haven't noticed anyone really talking about it, but in addition to this clarification we are waiting on, we also have the fact that the new DSM V manual was just released on May 18th. From speaking with my behavioral health counselor it was explained to me that this new revision actually widens what is considered PTSD. It's my belief that the military was giving SM the "Adjustment Disorder" claim to avoid diagnosing them with PTSD. I guess we will have to see what this manual says. I will say that I think if this is really the case and it is now a broader scope for PTSD someone might want to revisit the Army's rating. I know personally I was diagnosed with "Chronic Adjustment Disorder" by the Army and PTSD by the VA..

I found this quick list of changes for PTSD in DSM V

What Is Adjustment Disorder With Anxiety:-

An adjustment disorder is defined as an emotional or behavioral reaction to an identifiable stressful event or change in a person’s life that is considered maladaptive or somehow not an expected healthy response to the event or change. The reaction must occur within three months of the event or change happening.
It may be accompanied with feelings of insecurity, worry, helplessness and being driven to a reckless state of mind. It takes over the persons thinking influencing their behavior and thoughts.
Males and females of any age are susceptible to Adjustment Disorder. However, among adults, women are more prone to Adjustment Disorder than men. The disorder may occur at any age and may manifest for the first time in a new environment, a new place, a new school, or a newly imposed relationship. Hence best and most successful treatment should be taken for adjustment disorders.
I found this on Panic and Anxiety Center.com. I thought it fit with the feelings that I was having. I have been dealing with a lot of death in the last few years. Not only soldiers but I lost my mother, father and big brother in the last three years. Along with their death's, I have lost several friends both civilian and military. I never thought about this until I went for my mental eval. While talking to the Doc, I broke down a little bit and had trouble speaking about death in general. I put this behind me cause I just figured that everybody had trouble talking about this. All of my deaths came suddenly, no warning whatsoever. My mother died from a stroke about three days after I got home. My brother died in a car accident while drinking and driving. He took a 19 year old young man with him. My father died of a heart attack out of the blue. One week to the day after my brother passed, a friend was walking out to the driving range near his home and collpased of a heart attack. Bam,bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, one after another. I guess that's why I have been diagnosed with this disorder. They say talking about it helps but I don't feel any freaking better. Just wanted to share.

Just had someone in our unit who outprocessed and left in March but still on terminal leave have their retirement orders cancelled and was told they were being extended out to August 31, 2013. They already cleared, moved and setup in another state. No one is really sure if they will remain on leave, put back on full duty and told to stay there, come back, etc.
