Advice for Knee Injuries

I posted this over in the MEB tab but trying to get some more advice specific to injuries and possibility/chances they give me MEB/PEB. Thanks

Looking for some advice.

Background: 26 yo USMC Infantry officer

I have had 4 knee surgeries while in the military.

First one Left ACL reconstruction w/ Meniscus scope

Second Left ACL/MCL Reconstruction w/ Meniscus scope

Third Left ACL Reconstruction w/ Meniscus scope

Fourth Right ACL Reconstruction w/ Meniscus scope

Recently I have reinjured my left knee again. I am currently waiting to see an ortho in a few weeks and am currently doing Physical Therapy for it from my PCM while I wait. I also just got the MRI results back, mostly inconclusive due to metal from previous surgery. However what they could see was a complex meniscus tear and complete loss of Cartlidge on the weight-bearing portion of the medial side of. Not sure what the complete loss of Cartlidge means but doesn't sound good for my joints. does any one have any experience with that

THe PT thinks I have at least a partial ACL tear again but was unwilling to do all the tests needed as I had an ortho appointment already scheduled

I Also do not believe I have ever been officially put on LIMDU for any of these prior surgeries, will this affect them putting me on a MEB?

Based on this and doing some reading I am concerned that the doctor is going to put me in for MEB/PEB as clearly I have some issues with knee stability. Is this a realistic concern? Any experience with similar issues or advice is appreciated.

Thanks

I suspect that with no history of LIMDU, you will not be put in for an MEB.

I have to agree with ChaplainCharlie.

If they can fix you they will. I have been treated by ortho at Lejeune and Pendleton within the past few years. Stand up docs in both clinics.

Recommend you be up front with them and voice your concerns at the outset so they can write notes/advise treatment in a particular manner. They have a lot of discretion on things like this and most of them will be glad to help you get healed and back to Cobra Gold, the dirty first MEU, or another "more scenic" locale.

In all seriousness, if you don't like the answer you get tomorrow get a second opinion from another doc. Ask around (PT or PCM) and someone should be able to tell you the right person to see.

I was kicked in the knee in 2009 and had complications afterwards that cascaded into numerous different issues with my lower limbs. Unfortunately, that caused me to be on LIMDU from 2009 to 2015, but because each LIMDU was for different reasons I was never recommended for MEB. It wasn't until I reinjured my knee in 2015 and on 2 consecutive LIMDU's for the same reason that I was recommend for the MEB.

So, I agree with the others that they won't recommend MEB until you're on a LIMDU for more than a year for the same condition.
