AF Form 356 Importance of block 10C and D

Hello All,

I completed my FPEB yesterday (Discharge with Severance Pay) and the AF Form 356 states "The board finds (name) medical condition was incurred in a combat zone as designated by the Secretary of Defense (NDAA 2008, Sec 1646)." However block 10C is checked "No".

My question is will this affect my VA Benefits (recoupement) and the taxes on my severance pay? Will the VA go off of the remarks section or will Block 10C need to be checked? The statements "combat-related" and "incurred in a combat zone" are confusing... Can someone explain the legal/financial ramifications of each and regulations to support this? Any and all help is appreciated.
