I have been going through this MEB for 2 years now and I cannot seem to get answers. Please help. To make a long story short I will get to the point. My meb total time has been 2 years April '13. My narsm was read in may and did not come back signed until August. A process I was told would be 2 weeks took 4 months. My file was submitted to the PEB September 16th, 2012. I still have not received my percentage. This is a process I was told takes a max of 120 days but turn around average is 60 days...it's been 129 days and still nothing. Can someone please help me. I don't know where to get answers but this isn't right! I don't even know who to file some kind o complaint to! I've pleaded with my c.o.c I have talked to the ombundsman I have talked to my pueblos supervisor. I want to know when I can go home! I have had my unfit memo since nov 20th.

Every case is different and there are averages, but cases fall on the far right and left of the 'average" Anyway, What do you mean by "My narsm was read in may and did not come back signed until August."? You sign the NARSUM. Are you saying they took four months to put it together before you signed it?

Next, have you checked with the VA to see where they are at with your ratings? Once you figure out if they have seen your packet and what stage they have it at, you will better know how soon you will see a rating. You are right in the zone right now to get your stuff back. You just passed 4 months since they sent to the PEB.

What service are you in?

I understand that some cases are different and I feel that I've been more than patient but for 2 years I've been being told ill be done soon and I'm still sitting here. It took me 6 months just to get a refill on my meds. Yes I mean that it took 4 months from the date I met with the dr to review my narsm for them to have it prepared! I was told my case was submitted to the va on nov 20th and the last date on it is jan 8th. It does not make sense to me. I am in the Army.

The year it took to get to the point where the finally got to your NARSUM is what is a shame. Some people were behind the power curve for sure. Since then, it does seem to be flowing normal though. VA takes a month to 6 weeks to generate proposed ratings. From there it goes back to the PEB and there it takes 2-4 weeks to do your 199. It just depends on how backed up they are. It puts you right in the zone for a 199 very soon. Just hang in there and it will come to an end. The average for this stage is 120 days. At 129, you are not too far off. I am betting next week will be good for you.

It has taken me 2 years to get to the point I am now. You have however been helpful and I appriciate it. You have made me think twice about losing hope. Thank you.

Hope they didn't lose yours between the PEB (FT Sam) and the ratings at the VA like they did mine. I was found unfit Sept 19, on Jan 8 (My Birthday) I get a call from my PEBLOs supervisor, says somewhere somehow the VA never got my packet and FT Sam had lost all my records and nobody ever followed up on them :( (I was also under the impression that all those records, C&P Exams, Narsum were sent direct to VA??). Tells me FT Sam needs all new records, which I resent and they received Jan 14, now they need all new Med Release forms as they had all expired. Crazy, everytime I have went to a doctor for appointments , xrays, mri, cat scans, surgerys, phys therapy, I had them give me copies of all notes etc., which I have given to my unit, my states med unit, my local VA, my regional VA, FT Gordon-my PEBLOs (three times), Now FT SAM. They have all of those, had given them each signed releases, now they want more releases....They received the new releases Jan 22. How much longer till I get a rating??

That's exactly what they said to me when I went to the ombudsman last week! Nothing more than it was "lost" and had been resubmitted and "rushed". I was also told I was too demanding and if I expect answers I should be less demanding!

I moved all my things back to my hor and am sleeping on an air mattress in an empty house cuz my pueblo assured me I'd be done by Christmas.

I'd say yours is a rare case. It doesn't make too much sense either that they are having you resend records. Other than you signing an actual NARSUM, all the stuff gets uploaded as a digital package. They would have copies of it all. It sounds to me as you may be a victim of a PEBLO who was not processing paperwork. They are really the center point of the whole process and if they fail to put everything together and coordinate properly, a case could go bad. I hope they take all that into account and move your packet to the top of the stack. As far as time, it is going to flow according to the VA timeline once Ft Sam sends it to them. 4-6 weeks and then back to PEB.

Ciceromade- Keep that hope as that is what will help you through this process. You are so close to the end and it will all work. There is a good thread on here that was started by a member. Its a timeline tracker. Take a look at that sheet and you can see true averages for members on here. You can find the guys that are from your AO and see what the timelines for the PEB your packet got sent to. Keep us updated and like I said, I think next week will be good for you.

I do know the VA is back logged and has currently hired some additional personnel to review the medical exams for adequacy before acknowledging receipt and sending them to the R/O for review and a rating. It also depends when your case was referred to the PEB. The PEBs just went electronic in late March, early April, of 2012. Any case referred to the PEB prior to that is what they call a PDCAPS case. That's the old system that was used and these cases are currently in hard copy which makes it more difficult to get back and forth between the VA, PEBLOs, etc. PDCAPS cases need to be scanned and e-mailed back and forth because they are hard copy, which is time consuming, and some of the files are large depending on the SMs packets.

Did your case get sent to the JBSA/FT Sam Houston PEB?

My case was sent to PEB in San Antonio on Septemer 16th 2012. I was told this process on average takes 60 days to return but could take up to 120; Today is 138. I received my unfit for duty memo on November 20th 2012.

This is starting to get on the long side. What does you Ebenefits say? Call the VA and find out if they have completed their stuff. They will tell you when it was done and sent back to the PEB. You can also call the Ft Sam PEB and they may be able to provide you some information. There is also a member on here named sascha robertson who is a PEBLO. Look her up and message her and see if she can look into the system for you.

If your case was referred to the JBSA PEB in SEP 2012, your case would be what is called an e-PEB case, meaning your entire case is electronic versus PDCAPS as discussed above. I always advise Soldiers to get with their PEBLOs first for information on their PEB case because that is what one of their functions is but I know some PEBLOs are better than others in keeping their Soldier's informed.

If you e-mail me at [email protected] from your AKO with your IDES# (if you know it) or with your full name (to include your middle name), last 4 of SSN and your referring MTF, I can see exactly where your case is in the PEB process and where the VA is at with your rating.

Hi Ciceromade,
I am in a similar situation as my MEB was initiated in April 2012. My C&P exams were completed in May, however, I did not get to "preview" my Narsum until 27 JUL 12, which wasn't ready for me to clear by FEB 13. I was approved for and received an "expedition" for my MEB-PEB-ratings, but my packet has been at the VA for ratings since 29 NOV 12. I submitted an Iris Inquiry through the VA on the 7 JAN 13 and by 15 JAN 13, and my case status had moved to another phase, "rating phase". I am still waiting too and if my case status hasn't moved to another phase by the end of this month, I will submit another Iris inquiry. We have scheduled to move out of housing as well, and I am pregnant and time is really of the essence for me.

I don't know how to use ebenifits to check. I have spent the past few days trying to find the # call and check on it but I am not even sure what to google. I call my PUEBLO everyday she tells me there's nothing I can do but wait. She told me its out of her hands. I will definitely email her and see if she can help. Thank you so much! You have been extremely helpful!!!!

You need to get your Ebenefits account set up. There is so much you can see and do from the site. The information on there is sometimes not up to date, but it gives you a good ball park figure. Once you are out, you can manage your appointments, apply for benefits and download important documents from there. Use the link medicalmystery provided and get set up. To call I believe the number is 1-800-827-1000. Be patient, they take a long time. If you call a little later in the day, you can have them call you back, which is nice.

Mine was sent to FT Sam Aug 18, received Aug 23, found unfit Sept 19th...........still waiting. This is insane!

I just signed my 3rd Medical Extension for my IDES process. I've only been officially in the IDES program for just a year, because apparently it took time for the state to figure out what to do with my case. I'm a ARNG soldier going through through this process from my injuries on AD during OIF. From what I understand as well is the VA is very backlogged like usual.
