I am currently waiting for my PCM to write/send a report to AFPC concerning a genetic inheritance of cardiomyopathy/possible hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Im just 4 years shy in active duty and my medical situation has been going on for 2 years now and we just found out that this was the cause for some symptoms(elevated troponin, irregular ecg, scaring of the heart, hypertension) i developed early on. Mostly asymptomatic and idiopathic through the entire time and tons of blood tests, MRI, echocardiograms, stress-test and finally after a genetic test, we've got an answer. Considering this happened during service, would this be something that would result in greater than 30% and result in a medical retirement? I am nervous of how the PCM will write this report and the stress this medical condition has caused me over the years(during covid). I know on the VA side of things I will be able to add my other disabilities together but I'd like know where I can get additional info on cardiomyopathy in particular. Also to note, a cardiologist told me that this condition is disqualifying but as to what % degree i wasn't sure. Any advice/info is greatly appreciated!
