Some people see the claim open the day before their official EAS, others the day after, some the day of. Some even see it a week or so after their sep, and unusually two weeks after.Question for people who have started getting payments through the VA, how long did it take after your retirement date? And how soon does this second and final claim open up to where you can see it on the website?
As far as payments go, it's gonna depend on individual circumstance and VA case load. If you have hardship and you're flagged as such, the process can go extremely quickly like it went for me. I was flagged and my claim finalized in 8 days post-EAS. That definitely is not the norm, but I want you to know that you will be backpaid to the day after you separated. You will also get paid regularly if you took terminal PTAD/leave until that is dried up. If you struggle I recommend doing what I did and reaching out to NMCRS for a loan at 0%, then paying it back when the VA wraps up their process.
