Conflicting information (Navy)

Good morning,

I just started my 3rd LIMDU for after a second knee surgery last year. My EAOS ends on 06/2022. My LIMDU ends on 08/2022.

I have been told by my CCC that I should wait until closer to end of my EAOS to request an extension. By waiting, I am supposed to have a better idea of how long I should be asking to extend for. Basically, I am told I have to request a specific amount of time to extend. Obviously, this extension is for medical reasons, I would have no way of knowing how long I need to ask for.

From what it seems like, this would fall under a Retain-in-Service request which is the MILSPERMAN 1160-50. However, the LIMDU coordinator at my command told me he does not think this instruction applies to me.

I have spoken to another LIMDU coordinator from a different command that told me this does in fact fall under Retain-in-Service (MILSPERMAN 1160-50).

What is the correct information? What should I expect moving forward with this 3rd LIMDU?

Still being told the RIS does not apply to me even after presenting the RIS.
