Confused about what will happen with Current MEB

Good Afternoon i've been in a MEB for over two years now. They are finally trying to close it out but my PCM has been switched multiple times because my original PCM is out the door. At this point they want PCM notes but i was recently told i have to schedule an appointment with the new PCM before that is done. Just for background info on the condition that they are conducting a MEB for is i have respiratory issues during exercise, primarily aerobic. It's bad to the point that within the first lap of jogging or running i already get chest tightness, dynsea (shortness of breath) etc. Almost blacked out to finish an official PT test run. I've been put through what seems like every test and process and nothing has worked. Inhalers have not helped. Meds haven't helped. So it also makes me curious if they will retain me or not. My previous commander put do not retain because according to her "i'm a burden on the rest of the team" when it comes to things like deployments. I have a slew of other medical things going on that they hopefully won't put on there like my upcoming sleep study which might show i have sleep apnea (runs in my family from my sister, dad, uncles, etc). Should a MEB take this long?

From what you have written, it doesn't sounds like you are in a MEB.

They would not be waiting on anything from your PCM if you have been waiting on things like ratings for this long.

The IDES process is supposed to take 295 days for the active component.Screen Shot 2018-09-10 at 6.00.23 PM.png

So I am in a MEB. It's why I couldn't deploy last year. Ive been on a waiver since 2015. what happened was when it came time to be closed when the MEB was first started it wasnt so they restarted the process basically because that period of time allotted ended. Commander and supervision had to do their piece etc and send that to peblo. Whenever I call the peblo asking for a status update on my MEB she states they are waiting on PCM notes. Same answer for months now. He has all my documentation from all the appointments I've been to but I'm lost because I didn't think it would take this long and now makes me wonder if I will or wont be retained.

What is your official diagnosis? this is probably what the hold up is.

Have you talked with your PEBLO?

BushMaster,

Have you had your official in-brief to sign your IDES/LDES election? Have you consulted with your military provided disability attorney to discuss your IDES/LDES election? If so, you need to push your PEBLO to get the ball rolling. The MEB is a portion of the IDES process and should last no more than 100 calendar days. I know this is just a forum and I/we don't have a complete knowledge of your individual situation, but it seems to me that things are running way behind.

I would press the issue with your PEBLO and medical to ensure you get the proper care and/or benefits moving forward. It would be awful to get out of the military and have to navigate through the disability process on your own while having to wait for the treatment/benefits you need.

Take care.

I haven't. The only thing i've signed was paperwork acknowledging what my supervisor and previous commander noted regarding whether or not my condition affects my work and if the commander thinks i should be retained. That paperwork was sent to the PEBLO by the 1st Sgt. I've never met my PEBLO in person, just talked to her through the phone. My previous PCM who i had been seeing for a few years noted back in 2016 when i moved back to the states that he typically sees people with respiratory issues like ashthma returned back to duty long as they can run 100 meters but in the case they return me back to duty and I still have issues running or completing a full PT test they'll seperate me

1. Call your PCM and ask him/her to complete the paperwork.
2. Perhaps talking to the patient advocate can get your PCM to prepare the Narrative Summary.
3. Another strategy is to get your commander involved in a commander to commander discussion with the medical organization.
4. The IG would be a third strategy.

i called to imply about it and they stated because my PCM has changed due to my previous PCM retired my new PCM has to complete the final notes but i have to meet him first. The earliest appointment was the end of this month.
I talked to my first shirt who helped to elevate it and get medicals leadership involved but i guess i have to see the PCM first so that he gets background on the issue. Because even after it got elevated and the PEBLO stated that it has a high visibility right now because it's been going on for so long and should've been closed i was told by the nurse at family health i would have to see the Doc

Remember that you are your own advocate when it comes to your medical care. A lot of times, the people you're dealing with are satisfied with the "I sent an email" answer. I would follow-up everyday with your PEBLO and/or PCM until the ball gets rolling.

Don't let anybody tell you "what they know" about your condition and your probable outcome at a PEB. If you can't breathe, as you described above, your case needs to be seen by those actually in a place to make a decision on your fit/unfit status.

I agree. that's kind of what i did with the PEBLO was called basically every day or every other day till i finally got an answer because my last appointments or referals were done back in march. I think she is the only PEBLO here too which doesn't help because it can be hard to get into contact with her since she has patients too. I'm hoping they can get this done soon because i'm also on track to deploy and it all rides on the MEB.
