Hi guys, I'm trying to calculate what I would get for retirement pay with CRDP, but can't find very good information to do this:

1. US Navy E-6 with 20 years base pay is: 4616.40
2. My findings are 70% DoD and 100% VA.
3. I have a wife and 1 kid to calculate VA.

Can anyone help me or point me in the correct direction?

Okay with CRDP the calculations are super easy! Just add together your earned pension + VA compensation. Ignore the 70% DOD or anything related to your Chapter 61 pension as the calculations are based on your earned longevity from your regular retirement. So take the highest 36 months of pay and add them together. Then divide by 36. This gets your your average base pay which will be used to calculate your regular retirement. So it will be more than likely less than the 4616. For this example lets just say its $4,300. 20 years exactly would be 50% (it would be 40% if blended retirement plan and if so your CRDP would be 10% less). So your earned pension would be $2,150 + VA compensation which at 100% with 1 spouse and kid is $3,971.78. $2,150 + $3,971.78 = $6,121.78

I was under the impression that you used your DoD disability rating to calculate CDRP, so if we use 4300 as my baseline estimate, then I would be getting $3,010 + $3,971.78 = $6981.78. Wouldn't this be correct?

That is incorrect. CRDP is restoration of the offset of your earned pension longevity.

Your chapter 61 pension isn't used in any part of the calculation for CRDP. The same goes for CRSC. Both programs allow you to earn your fully earned pension through longevity which is years in service + VA compensation. That is the ceiling for compensation.

I was mistaken as you said, I had misread some other post, but as I understand it, CRDP only covers up to what you would normally get for regular retirement. So I did the High-3 calculations, which is what I would fall under, as I do not at all qualify for BRS as I was in too long.

High-3 Base Pay = 4348.45
4348.45 x 50% = 2,174.22
VA Disability = 3,971.78

2,184.22 + 3,971.78 = 6,146.00

That looks correct:)
