Question...How do I calculate what my CRSC would be. I will have a minimum of 70% from the army and 100% from the VA with 18+ years of service. What else do I need to know in order to calculate CRSC and how do I calculate it? I'm just trying to figure our how much I'm going to lose if I don't get a COAD granted at the end of my medboard. Thanks.

Hello,

You will need the following info to compute your CRSC:

1. average high three base pay
OR
1b. Gross amount on most recent DFAS RAS
2. DoD percentage
3. VA percentage and amount and dependents by category and number
4. Approved CRSC percentage
5. Active duty equivalent or BETTER = from retirement orders under DISABILITY RETIREMENT years and months
6. Blended retirement?
7. Titles of any SMC approvals from VA? Examples = SMC-S SMC-K

You can provide that info in this same thread and Provis or myself will compute it for you. ALL the accurate info is needed.
Otherwise, you can review some of the recent CRSC computations for examples. It is a somewhat complex procedure.

@Provis
So, to clarify, I am still on Active duty. I am going through the medboard right now, but here's the info I have:
1. Average high 3 is 3995.21
2. DOD % = 70
3. VA % = 100; 1 spouse, 5 children under 18 years
4 CRSC % is 70
5. I'm not sure exactly what this means. I'm currently at 18 years and 7 months
6. no, not blended retirement
7. No SMC titles.

I'm just trying to figure out what the difference is going to be in pay if I have to get out before I hit the 20 and if I can get another COAD approved to see if it's even worth fighting that fight. This is my second time through the medboard process. I had a continuation approved, but now am getting reevaluated. The percentages are all approved from my first medboard, so they are the bare minimum of what I'll get. Thanks.

Hello,

a. 3995 x 70% = retired pay 2796.50
b. Your retired pay will be reduced by the amount of your VA comp (not furnished but more than retired pay) = zero ret pay remaining
c. 18.583 years x 2.5% = 46.46% longevity multiplier
d. 3995 x 46.46% = 1856 longevity portion of retired pay

Your CRSC will be the lesser of
1856
OR
the amount found in the VA comp tables for the approved CRSC percentage (dependents included)

If found unfit you can apply for COAD and the closer you are to hitting 20 years the better your chance. I strongly recommend doing everything you can to hit 20 years!

I am on PDRL and medboarded last October from the active duty army:
1. $4,189 (my monthly VA disability payment at the moment)
2. DOD % = 70
3. VA % = 100; 1 spouse
4 CRSC % is 90
5. I have 5 years, 11 months in the army
6. Yes, blended retirement
7. No SMC titles.

@Provis
1 RAS 2313
2 60%
3 100% $4413 3 CHILDREN UNDER18 1WIFE
4. 70% POSSIBLY 90 IF THEY GIVE ME COMBAT RELATION FOR TBI AND MIGRANES

5. 11 YEARS EXACYLY
6. Permanent disabled retired list
7. No smc of any sort.

1060 and some change is your ceiling

And since 1060 is lower than the VA pay of 70 percent it will not matter if you get 90 percent CRSC

You also didn’t say if you were under the blended retirement system or not. But if you are it’s less than 1060

No worries.

Your retro pay will be limited to 6 years.

I was in 2004 to 2015 and have no idea what the blended retirement system is.
It’s the newish retirement system that new accessions are under as of Jan 2018 I believe. Might be off a year. Also you should get retro pay for the entirety of the time you have been retired/received a VA rating. Supreme Court ruled there is no more limit.

I just received my lump sum but it was limited to 6 years when I have been out for 10.
