Comments.

Have you applied for CRSC and received an approval?

The following questions should be answered in order to analyze your
case:

1. Do you have a Chapter 61 retirement, but you also qualify for a reserve/NG retirement due to "20 good years"?

2. If you qualify for a reserve/NG retirement, do you meet the age requirement for pay at this time?

3. What is the total number of active duty years you have?

4. What is your high three average base pay for retirement? If you do not know the figure, please report all the information that is on page one of your most recent DFAS RAS.

5. What is the amount of your VA compensation...plus rate...plus categories of dependents and number of children by age?

6. What is your CRSC approved percentage?

7. Please provide all of the above in one reply, within this forum.

8. Added: What is your DOD disability retirement percentage approved ?

Hello,

Have you applied for CRSC and received an approval?

Based on the limited info available.

It appears you have a Chapter 61 retirement and CRSC approved at a certain percentage.

If my inference is correct, the following likely applies:

1. Your retirement pay is computed using higher of the longevity multiplier (years of active duty x 2.5%) or the DOD disability multiplier approved in conjunction with your retirement.

2. Your retirement pay is reduced by the amount of your VA compensation. There might be some retirement pay remaining that you keep.

3. You receive your full VA compensation.

4. I assume you have CRSC approved. If so, it replaces some of the retired pay lost/waived/reduced. It s not shown on a DFAS RAS; it is presented on a DFAS CRSC statement.

5. If you did have some remaining retirement pay (see item 2), you would have three payments each month in this scenario:
—VA for VA compensation
—DFAS RAS for remaining retirement pay (if any)
—DFAS CRSC and statement for CRSC.

Since this is a somewhat complicated matter and much of the info for an analysis is missing, could you post a redacted copy of your most recent DFAS RAS (Retiree Account Statement), both pages, to this thread? Perhaps a veterans service officer in your area could assist you. Also, if you have a CRSC statement, I would like to see a redacted copy of it as well, please.

Your spouse, whom you mentioned, might be able to assist you with the collection and presentation of financial information.

Thank you,
Ron

BLUF:
Most of the info needed for an analysis is missing.

Here are some facts you provided and some inferences on my part which may or may not be correct:

1. You mentioned your retired pay was offset by 3227 VA comp. You also said you receive 415 retired pay.
I infer that 3227 + 415 = total gross retired pay of 3642

2. 3642 would be the result of either
—DoD disability retired pay percentage (unknown) x high three average base pay (most likely scenario)
or
—(your active duty equivalent years x 2.5%) x (high three average base pay)

3. Assuming my inference regarding the 3642 is accurate, I would need the DoD percentage to determine the high three average base pay thru: (3642/DoD percentage) = high three

4. Your active duty equivalent years are needed to determine the longevity portion of your retirement pay, which has a direct bearing on the amount of CRSC you might receive.

Summary:
—please provide your DoD disability percentage
—please provide your active duty years equivalent
—please confirm that 3642 is your total gross retired pay
—what is the CRSC percentage approved by your service after you retired?
—please provide redacted copies (all pages) of your DFAS RAS and DFAS CRSC Statement

chapter 61 retired I am 61 yr of age, active duty 27 months 3 days, VA/DOD compensation is at $3227 with spouse, CRSC approved %80Scan_20190829 (2).png

VA 80% with unemployability 100% [PLUS per CRSC statement, CRSC is $415]

Sir,

Based on your CRSC statement and the following info: “chapter 61 retired I am 61 yr of age, active duty 27 months 3 days, VA/DOD compensation is at $3227 with spouse, CRSC approved %80” your pay seems to be correct.

Your retired pay, like other Chapter 61 retirees, is reduced by the amount of VA compensation received. Apparently, that reduction left zero retired pay remaining.

The replacement of the lost/waived retired pay cannot exceed the dollar amount of the longevity portion of your retirement pay.
With only 27 months active duty, I am not surprised your CRSC is only $415.

Again, with limited info available, your pay (VA compensation plus $415 CRSC) seems correct.

You can request a DFAS audit of your retired pay and CRSC by sending your signed request to:
