CRSC how to?

Trying to get basic info on whether it makes sense for me to apply for crsc. I retired with just over 20 years, most of it as a part-timer with the National guard, just shy of 5 years of active duty during that time. 100% VA disability for combat ptsd. 70% DOD rating for the same. My retirement paycheck started in February, and my retirement and VA offset are both tax-free. How do I figure out if I will make more money applying for crsc?

Found my answer in the pinned threads.

1. High three base pay average for retirement or IF retired, your current DoD disability retirement gross found on page one of the DFAS RAS. The gross retired pay from your DFAS RAS is preferred since it presents a gross high three that include any COLA increases. Please indicate whether you are providing the high three average or the retirement gross found on the DFAS RAS. EXAMPLE: My high three average is $3333 (or alternative: Gross Retired Pay on DFAS RAS $xxxx.xx)

My ERAS shows my gross pay is $6467.00

2. DoD disability retirement percentage. EXAMPLE: My DoD disability rating is 50%

70 percent from DOD

3. Years and months of active duty EXAMPLE: My active duty 11 years and 3 months (Note: 11 yrs 3 months is not 11.3; it is 11.25)
Note: The creditable years of service (active duty equivalent) for a reserve calculation is determined by the sum of accumulated reserve points divided by 360.

My last RPAM had a total of 2995 points. Divide by 360 is 8.32. I have 4 years 10 months of active duty time during my 20 years

4. VA compensation:
-- percentage
and
--amount
plus
--identify dependents by category and number EXAMPLE: I have 60% VA Compensation, $1600, Spouse and 6 children under 18
and
---Any SMCs awarded and amount(s) Example: I have SMC-K in the amount of $108.57

I have a 100% rating ($4413.63) with four dependents, one spouse three children.

5. Approved or expected combat related disability percentage (application was required). EXAMPLE: I have 100% CRSC approved plus SMC-S approved as well for CRSC

Unsure how to answer this one

6. Do you qualify for another type retirement besides CH 61 disability, including REDUX? EXAMPLE: Yes, I qualify for Reserve Retirement pay now as I have reached the age requirement

I qualify as a grey area retiree but I don't think I otherwise qualify

If im reading it right, you are currently receiving CH61 disability pay minus VA offset pay, but have a 20 NG/reserve retirement letter. If you are not age 60 and collecting CMRP (concurrent military retirement pay), then yes you are leaving some money on the table by not applying for CRSC.

Info you provided:

High 3 from ERAS = 6467
CH61 DoD 70% = 4526.9
VA 100% = 4413.63
Reserve Pts
2995 / 360 = 8.32 x 2.5 = 20.8% multiplier for longevity
$6467 x 20.8% = 1,345.14 longevity portion of retirement ( Ceiling for CRSC and your CMRP pay at age 60)

4526.9 DoD retirement reduced by 4413.63 VA comp = 113.27 residual pay

So current pay is 2 paychecks
1. DoD Ch61 = 113.27
2. VA pay = 4413.63

If you apply for CRSC and get approved, you would need a CRSC% that has a payout higher than 1345.14 which is your earned retirement pension. Looking at current rates, you would just need 60% to make sure it is higher than your longevity.
Using Combat PTSD @ 70% as the basis of your CRSC claim.
70% VA rate for vet + spouse = 2,018.19 (which is higher than 1345 longevity)
I didn't use the children in the CRSC VA pay rate, as they would drop off at some point when they hit age 18.

CRSC pay would be:
1345.14 - 113.27 ch 61 residual = $ 1,231.87 max payout of CRSC

So you would end up getting 3 checks at end of month all tax free:
1. DoD Ch61 = 113.27
2. VA pay = 4413.63
3. CRSC = 1231.87

Spot on, Chief, thanks for jumping in to assist!
