CRSC Question - Reconsideration approved recently

My main question is should I expect an increased CRSC payment and/or retroactive pay or am I maxxed out on this payment due to my short time in service combined with not being an Active Duty service member?

I apologize in advance for not being able to answer all the questions requested to provide accurate CRSC calculation, I have a hard time understanding all this information and don’t know where to find most of it. I hope what I provide is enough to help someone answer my question.

My DoD rating was 40% when I was retired in 2011 and all injuries were considered combat related. I was awarded CRSC in April 2013 at 40%. My injuries got significantly worse in late 2013 leading to several new service-connected disabilities. This also includes having an amputation of a limb that was initially salvaged due to a combat related incident while deployed in Iraq. I submitted a CRSC reconsideration about 90 days ago. I just received a response for the reconsideration, and it appears my CRSC rating increased to 80%.

1. MyPay shows my Monthly Retiree Account Statement (eRAS) at $900.00 but the last statement showing is from March 2012. The highest rank I held was E4 - Specialist. Im pretty sure I have never received retired pay because I received a VA rating at retirement that was above 50% at retirement

2. I served from Oct 2006 to Sept 2011 and was an Army National Guard member. Much of my time was spent on active duty orders. Attended Basic (infantryman) in Jan 2007, then was ordered to active duty for several months of other schools which then led into a deployment to Iraq mid-2008 where I was injured and assigned to an active duty med hold unit until retired in Sep 2011.

3. VA compensation:
100 Percent VA Service Connected - Total and Permanent
$4443.55 monthly compensation
Spouse and 2 children under 18
I have some sort of SMC but I don’t know the amount and I am unsure where to find this.
I currently receive a CRSC payment of about $234 in addition to my VA compensation.

4. The reconsideration award letter received recently now lists the following CRSC percentages;
50% Oct 11 - Sep 13
60% Oct 13 - Feb 17
80% Mar 17
SMC-01 found combat related effective Oct 13 - present

Is there any chance I will see a CRSC increase or expect any sort of retroactive pay? Any other information I can provide to help answer this question?

Looks like you are maxed out on your CRSC payment due to your length of service, rank and points.

40% VA payout for Veteran, spouse and 2 children under 18 is $964.16 and if you're only getting $234, you have maxed out your longevity pay. Increase in CRSC % will not increase this payout.

Pencil math
$900 / 40% = $2,250 high 3 in 2012.

You served 2006 to 2011 about 5 yrs, and if you did all 5 yrs as active duty = 10% longevity multiplier (5 yrs active x 2.5 = 10)

$2,250 (2012 high3) x 10% (longevity) = $225 max CRSC payout.

So with COLA in 13 yrs, your current payout is $9 more than what i calculated above with limited info. Safe to say, there will be no increase CRSC payout or retroactive pay.

Actually, i misread it. You will get some retroactive pay for the months of Oct 2011 to April 2013, either 18 months or 17 months depending if its half months in there or not.

Id say somewhere between $3k to $4k depending on the rate during those years.

@MrChiefWarrant you were correct on your initial calculation, there wouldn't be any retro as he was already rated at 40% and would have gotten that retro check back then.

@5-toe-joe If you were anywhere in the northeast from NJ through Maine while on MEDHOLD, you were one of my guys as I was the PEBLO at the CBWTU-MA. Good possibility you were elsewhere, but I just had to mention it lol. How many points did you have when you retired? You can log into iPERMS to see if there are any RPASs in there following your retirement date - iPERMS RMA also, chances are you're already maxed out as today vet + spouse + 2 children under 18 = $964.16 / month. If you're not already getting that, then you're already maxed out for length of service. In 2013 the base amount for 40% for vet only (I cannot find the dependent chart atm) was $569/mo.
