CRSC Timeline

Hello,

Based on the info you provided...

a. 1377/40% = 3442 high three
b. Hopefully, the info you provided for active duty equivalent was shown as "Disability Retirement" if you were Army I offer this because rarely is the number an even 12 years or so; months and days are also shown. 12 x 2.5% = 40% longevity multiplier
c. 3442 x 30% = 1032.60 longevity portion of retired pay and the amount of your CRSC
NOTE: If your retirement orders do not show 12 years under "Disability Retirement" about 3/4 down on first page, this computation is not accurate.

Ron
Ron you were spot on with your calculations for crsc pay. Can you please clarify the retro pay amount for me? When it comes to retro pay, is there now a cap of $10,000 for all retro pay or does dfas give you a the owed balanced up to six years? I am a bit confused about everything i have read on this.

Hello,

The $10.000 ceiling applies only to the Soto decision and beyond six years retroactive pay. Your CRSC is not limited to $10K retro.

Ron

30MAR: After 4th call and one email into DFAS inquiring about status of audit, I spoke with a rep and she added a note to my file.
01APR: DFAS rep called me to say sorry that my retroactive audit didn’t automatically populate in the system (he “didn’t know why) and that he preformed the audit today. He also provided the amount and said that as long as his math was right, it shouldn’t be too much longer before I see the money in my account.

@RonG - I spoke with the CRSC supervisor at Army HRC a few weeks ago (I had ZERO contact from the section in a couple years, which is wrong as imho as a CRSC Ambassador) and he stated that Army processing is roughly 60 days or less from the time they upload it into their system until the letter is generated. I'm working on getting more visibility out there for the program as there has been and still is insufficient visibility for it and many others agree. I'll keep the group here posted as I have updates.

Thank you @RetiredColonel-MikeT . Is the CRSC processing (Army’s) still handled by a civilian contractor?

Ron,

Not sure what the current make-up of the Special Compensation Branch is, but I do know approx 5 years ago the contract was not renewed and they had to get the green suitors up to speed. This led to a 10-12 month processing time. Yeah, 10-12 months. I believe it is a GS supervisor, not sure on the rest, but might be all GS's or a mix GS/contractor at this point. If I think of it, I'll ask that with my next batch of questions for them.

Thank you Mike.

By the way, I was one of those affected by the 2009 CRSC debacle. Retro CRSC Project, DFAS and Contractor <---LINK to Stars and Stripes article

Note: The term "VA Retroactive Pay" used at the time is misleading. They are really talking about CRDP paid by DFAS.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but have a QQ if anyone has the answer readily available. I've spoken with VA, DFAS, and HRC and no one knows the answer so here goes: Do Army reservists with over 15 years but fewer than 20 who are medically retired on the PDRL get CRSC benefits immediately (assuming the combat-related disability requirements are met)? I've read that Army reservists have to wait until they are 60 before receiving, but was also told that CRSC benefits would be immediate due to medical retirement (rather than retiring as an Army reservist after 20 years as part of regular retirement). Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes they do as long as they have a VA Offset and entitled to Retired pay including disability retirement pay. CRDP you have to wait until 60 if you have a 20-year letter. You can have as few as one year if you have combat-related conditions and are medically retired.

Has anyone done a recent CRSC reconsideration with the Navy? I am well past their email stating 45-60 days.

Hate to say it, but DoN is running 9+ MONTHS according to feedback in my Facebook group :/

Do you or anyone else out there have any new info on the Navy's CRSC processing time - my application has been in there since Feb 2023 and still no response - last time I asked them for an update on Jan 2 2024, all I got was "your case is pending adjudication and a secure email will be sent with instructions to download your letter" still no response - I find it hard to believe that it takes this long to read a couple of documents and come up with a decision - my case is a presumed exposure to AO in Guam from the Pact Act that the VA awarded 20% disability in Feb 2023. Thanks for any replies.

Someone in my FB group called and unfortunately, the response was "12-14 months" - incredulous at the lack throughput there, hell, I could go there and probably clear up their backlog in 2 weeks ffs
