CRSC work up

I'm trying to get a work up from a retro retirement.



1. Average high three = $2980 from back in 2009 when they retro-retired me due to a ABCMR decision.
Alt high three= 4246
RAS is 1274 for December
2. DOD disability %= 30%
3. Years of service = 11, 6mos
4. a. VA % = 100%
b. now at $4303
c. Spouse and 2 children
d. SMC = 0
5. CRSC %= 70%
6. no REDUX/CSB

Just calculate the value of your pension and that is the most you can get per month. As far as backpay it will be from the start of the retro date and not the 6 year limitations date so you have that going for you. If you are 70% CRSC and your DOD% is low at 30% you are just trying to get back any compensation lost due to the VA offset of your chapter 61 pension. Using your Alt high 3 which is current tables your pension is worth about $1,100 a month for this year. CRSC may be different % through different dates if your VA % was lower earlier on so that may be a factor too. I would just apply for CRSC once everything is settled and see where it lands. Remember you will just get a monthly CRSC check to start and then it will take several months for DFAS to calculate the backpay.
 
I already have 70% from them but the initial injuries which happened while diving aren’t on there yet. They wanted more information that it’s them together. I have the old DA199 and a letter from the PEB showing it happened while diving as well as a sworn statement from a diver who replaced me on the dive on top of the MRI after the injury. I think/hope that should be enough. It’s more than I hear most have.

Also, watch out for DFAS as they'll whack you for retro SBP fees back to your retro date, which is ridiculous imho!

I do not know the absolute answer to that but, yes, indeed, I agree that there are better options out there and the individual should be able to decline it retroactively. I think it's criminal that they do this.
