Just received my ratings which were 60% VA and 50% DoD. All 50% from DoD is combat connected. I was told by my peblo and given all the information to apply for CSRC once I finish terminal leave. My question is I can’t seem to figure out how to calculate it or figure how much it’ll be. My VA is $1290 give or take.

Married E-5 with child
5 years 6 months service.

Thank you for any help!

Hello,

Please provide the following in one reply:

1. Percentage of disability retirement: 40% [example]
2. Disability Retirement from Retirement orders: 11 yrs 3 months [example]. This active duty time, if you don’t have orders yet, furnish your active duty time from another source.
3. Retiree Account Statement under pay description, Gross Pay, $1,869 and VA Waiver $3,501.16 [example]
Or
Average high three base pay and VA compensation amount
Please indicate which you are furnishing.
4. Number and categories of dependents: spouse and 2 children under 18 [example]
5. Qualify for another retirement? I also qualify for a regular (20 yr) retirement [example]

The info requested at post 2 is necessary for an accurate computation. I noticed you departed shortly after you posted.

The following will apply to your case:
—your retired pay will be reduced by the amount of your VA compensation
—your CRSC will replace some of the waived/reduced retired pay
—your CRSC amount will be the lesser of
a. The dollar amount of the longevity portion of retired pay
OR
b. The amount associated with the approved CRSC percentage. That amount is found in the VA compensation tables.

The info requested in my initial reply is required for an accurate estimate.

Ron,

1: 50%
2: 5 years 6 months
3: I’m not sure I understand or know where to find this information
4: one spouse and one child under 18 years old
5: no I do not.

My VA compensation is 60%($1290.86)
My base pay is $2,804.40 making half of that $1,402.20

I think I’ve figured out number 3. If it’s the average gross pay of my highest 3 years it would be $2,680.20

My VA compensation is 60%($1290.86)
My base pay is $2,804.40 making half of that $1,402.20

I think I’ve figured out number 3. If it’s the average gross pay of my highest 3 years it would be $2,680.20

a. If 1402.20 gross is 50% of an unknown number, then (1402.20/ 0.50) = 2804.40 high three as of today
b. (1402.20 - 1290.86) = 111.34 gross residual retired pay
c. (5.5 AD yrs x 0.025) = 13.75% longevity multiplier
d. (2804.40 x 0.1375) = 385.61 longevity portion of retired pay
e. (385.61 - 111.34) = 274.27 CRSC

f. An expected CRSC amount is not available; however, since the longevity amount is relatively low, I suspect you will receive the following:

DFAS: (274.27 + 111.34) = 385.61 each month
VA: 1290.86 each month
