Do I really care about TDRL redetermination

I got to thinking about is there was any reason someone over 20 would care about TRDL Redetermination if their reg retirement percentage was more than their TDRL percentage. Isn't the VA rating more important at that point? Maybe I just don't know enough about TRDL vs PDRL?

Tomcat,

If your assumption (bolded, above) is true, then it probably does not matter much. You still have access to healthcare coverage, you will get at least your LOS retirement calculation in pay and you keep eligibility for CRDP. However, depending on your circumstances, a higher final percentage awarded for disability may net you more income. So, it would seem that where you might care is if your TDRL percentage should be higher (or perhaps much higher) than your LOS calculation. There may be some obscure benefits (perhaps state tax/property tax, educational benefits or civil service preference) that may be impacted. But, if your final disability rating is correct and lower than your LOS calculation then it does not matter much.

Correct.
