IDES Timeline

I'm a retard who should have looked into this committee sooner. Oh well.
Just submitted a long complaint and plea for help from mine, Senator Moran from Kansas. He is the lead Republican on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee so maybe he will have some active connections.

Someone recently shared a picture that showed names for the President of the Board. What thread was that posted in? Trying to get my command to reach out to the PEB to see if they possible help move things along.

I did one in Beaufort a few months back because the PEBLO sat on my case after everything was signed and finished for 8 weeks before submitting to the PEB and they basically said “she’s very busy”
wtf.gif

My name is (RANK) Daddy Longdick, I am a United States Marine on Active Duty currently undergoing the Physical Evaluation Board process and I ams eeking assistance.

I was referred to the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES)o n 10 May 2021. Today (October 21, 2021) is 164 days since being
referred to the Medical Evaluation Board (MEB), 160 days since receiving my IDES brief, and 100 days since my package was received by the Physical Evaluation Board (PEB). I have been informed by my PEB Liaison Officer (PEBLO) that my case is in the Medical Officer's queue awaiting action and that I can expect "no movement anytime soon" because the PEB does not have enough Medical Officers on staff to process PEB cases. Additionally, I have been told that my case is one of about 5,000 cases in the Medical Officer queue.

DoDM-1332.18 V2 - Disability Evaluation System (DES) Manual: Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) Enclosure 7 - IDES Timeline Goals states:

"2. a. Overall IDES Process. The goal is for DoD and VA to complete 80 percent of cases of AC Service members in no more than 295 days from the date of referral to the IDES to the date of return to duty or notification of the VA benefits decision.

2. c. (1) IPEB Stage. Complete the IPEB stage for AC Service members in no more than 65 days from the date the PEB receives the DES case
file from the PEBLO to the date either the Service member requests an FPEB or (if Service member concurs with IPEB findings) when the Military Department approves the final results of the disposition decision. This time frame includes the time allotted for the D-RAS to complete rating decisions and reconsider rating decisions to the PEB, which is part of the disposition."

My case exceeds the timeline for the IPEB stage by 35 days. In addition to exceeding the timelines for the IDES process, I am being told that my case (and nearly 5,000 others) will not be actioned for an unknown amount of time because no cases are currently being process by the PEB unless they are over 120 days in the process.

This backlog and lack of progress for case processing at the PEB is having an adverse impact on the 5,000 Marines and Sailors waiting for answers as their military careers and personal lives are in limbo. Going through a PEB is stressful. Concerns of being found fit/unfit
are compounded by how the outcome of a PEB will affect the Marine or Sailor's military career, financial future, and potentially earlier than anticipated end to military service. All of these stressors are in addition to the stressors associated with the medical condition(s) that resulted in the service member being referred to the IDES process. It is frustrating beyond belief, and I am watching my hopes, goals and dreams fade while I am stuck waiting all because of manpower shortages that were not mitigated at the beginning meanwhile the Army and Air Force PEBs are still processing packages in a timely manner regardless of the current COVID pandemic. I am a United States Marine, a father to (INSERT NUMBER OF KIDS) and the sole provider for my family. I want to ensure I've exhausted every avenue possible to process my package in the timeline that it's expected to follow. The continued backlog of cases and pushing of the goal post is exacerbating my mental health issues and making it more difficult to continue my day to day activities.

Desired outcome: Take appropriate actions to process my package in a timely manner & in accordance with DoDM-1332.18 V2 Disability
Evaluation System (DES) Manual: Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES)
Yeah that was written very well.!

579 days in IDES I'm ok guys. Hopefully we all see the light at the end of the tunnel by the new year.

Have someone in your command call this person:

Lead PEBLO Mr. Jeffrey Johnson ([email protected]) 202-685-6436 He is the leade PEBLO at the PEB.

My Lt Col called them today and was able to get a decent amount of information as well as a rough timeline for when my case should receive findings.

My case was sent to the PEB on 14 May. I received an MOL message on 11 June stating my case was accepted by the PEB. My case went into the medical officer queue on 23 June.

According to Mr. Johnson they had been working 10 cases per week but this week they started working 50 cases per week. He also told my Lt Col that there are approximately 70 cases ahead of mine. He told my Lt Col to call back in two weeks if I haven't received my results.

I'll see if my provider can shoot him an email or call him since he is attached to my command. My PEBLO told me I should be getting word back in November if things stay on track from what she's been seeing. I got my MOL message on July 5th.

At one point I had to ask if she had quit her job because everyday I called they said they “didn’t know” when she would be returning to work. Like they didn’t know if she was on leave or teleworking or what. I hate it here. Sometimes I get answers from Ms.Ewell and Mr.Krauer if you ever try to contact them, they’re legal for med boards.
Yes! Ms. Ewell has given me most of my updates at this point. I tried asking the PEBLO for my VA proposed rating but I never got an email back. Surprise surprise. Her assistant usually answers the phone atleast but there are things she can’t do

Thank you! Definitely utilizing this.

Your PEBLO has an assistant?! Mine is just the typical worthless civilian employee you see on military bases everywhere who seems to never actually be in the office.

Yeah apparently she had 2 at one point but idk what she actually does because when the PEBLO was sitting on my complete package for 8 weeks not submitting to the PEB the assistant couldn’t do shit about it.

My PEBLO is also the only PEBLO between 2 bases apparently.

That makes no sense. Why not just make the assistants PEBLOs? Wait I forgot big Navy isn't supposed to make sense.

How long did they continue to only do 10 cases a week through a manpower shortage before they were like “hmm maybe we should pick up the pace a little”?!?

So 50 cases a week will take 2 years to get through the 5000 packages sitting there. Not including newly submitted ones..

My guess is that’s 50 cases per medical officer, per week. But aren’t they still undermanned? So it really doesn’t give us a good idea on how many cases are being processed.

I thought it was currently only one MO
It used to be, “we’re undermanned because people are transferring over the summer.” Well it’s basically November, so if they somehow still only have a single medical officer processing cases, then they really need to be held accountable.
