IDES/VA process

Hello,
I'm sure this question has been posted about 1,000 times by now. Can someone in the MOST simple way explain the process to me. Here is where I am at. I recently completed my IDES physical and C&P exams for the Army/VA. I did the general medical and mental health evals. Where does it go from here.

I am under the impression it goes to the VA at Ft Benning (in my case), then from there to big army for something, then back to va, then back to big army? I"m so freakin confused!
 
I'm sure most of the processes are similar so, from where you are, the physicals and mental exams have to be signed by the appropriate convening authority. From there it will come back to your Peblo for you to review and sign. Once that is done it will go to "Big Army" and they determine based on all of the facts in your case fit or unfit. If fit you back back to duty. If unfit the VA will rate your referred and claimed diagnosis for compensation. It is then returned to the "Big Army" for approval and then you go from there. basically what keithl said. you will get a narrative summary (NARSUM) dictated by the MEB. You will review/sign/appeal if necessary. the packet will then go to the PEB for benning it should be the national capital region PEB. fit/unfit decision is made there. va rates and PEB fills out DA199. you review/sign/appeal. then the last stop is the USAPDA for final review. this is just the basic flow. get knowledgeable on the timelines for your portion of the NARSUM and appeals. they have a loose timeline you have a set one to sign the documents or you automatically concur with the findings. lots of links in the signature.

edit:consult SMEBC (soldier's meb counsel) with everything before you sign it.
 
Hello i have a question,
i am in the process of the med board myself i did 2 deployments. i had c5-c6 fusion and l4-l5 lumbar fusion. i just got back my NARSUM. it says that my back/neck and ptsd don't meet retention standards and that my disability did not exist prior to entry into service. my question is being that the case is be referred to central physical evaluation board would they put me on a TRDL or PRDL because im hearing that if i have ptsd that they automatically put the service member on TRDL.

It appears more often than not SMs with PTSD as an unfit condition are placed on TDRL. That is not to say you "will" be placed on TDRL. They look at the stability of all your injuries and make a decision.
 
mo4652-If you are Army and stationed at FT Benning, your case will be referred to the JBSA/FT Sam Houston PEB for a fit/unfit decision and your unfitiing conditions will be sent to the VA Disability Evaluation System (DES) Rating Activity Site (D-RAS) in Seattle, Washington. As stated above, the VA rating will go to the PEB and a DA 199 will be typed with your PEB findings and VA ratings and sent to your PEBLO. Your PEBLO will contact you and counsel you on your findings and you have 10 days to make an election. I also recommend you seek Soldier's MEB Counsel (SMEBC) before making an election. The timeline from here will depend on your election. If you concur with the PEB findings and VA rating, your case will be sent to USAPDA for review and when approved, you will be entered into TRANSPROC and you will begin to work with the transition office from there on separation/retirement orders, whichever applies to you.

If you do not concur with the PEB findings and/or VA ratings, you have several options and the SMEBC can explain them to you and assist you with the documentation needed. Just for your knowledge, I recommend you review the Army IDES Handbook so you are familiar with the timelines and process.
