Is it true that the ultimate decision maker is your CO?

Hi-

I'm trying to run down the fact on some info I got.

Brief background:
Sent to PEB- came back fit for future service. BUT I can't pass a sea duty screening. Was told to stan-by for an ad-sep because I can't deploy.

I will lose many benefits if I am adseped that I would be able to keep with a med sep (even at 0%)

After speaking with several medical officers, I heard a rumor (I'm calling it that until I have proof) that the person who ultimately decides if a Sailor gets a medical seperation or an adsep is that Sailor's CO.

Is this true? Where is the proof?

Thanks!

MEB's decide medical discharge or not (that is what they are for). Yes the CO can ADMIN SEP you.

I would say your detailer has some input also. Is your detailer able to try to find you somewhere else to go in the Navy, other than a ship? Read about my history in Mike Parker's Outrage of the week # 3. There is also an article on the front page of this site titled "Lawmakers look to restrict discharges for medical conditions" that covers what happened to me.
