Just had to cancel my MED to have a spinal fusion, along with other things. A friend of mine was telling me I get compensation for the four days I spent in the hospital, the week my wife took off of work, and the three weeks I had people help me from the day to day activities (ie house duties, showering, dressing, etc...). I this true and how do I go about claiming, and documentation. He was also tell me to file for social security how do I go about doing so? Currently I am still going through recovery and have decided I will probably going to re-activate my MEB instead of taking the MRB unless they can give me Intel or Sat communications. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I just don't think I can sit at a desk or deal with people financial paperwork without losing my mind. On the bright side I am happy I decided to get the surgery because the tricare bill came out to 300,000 and I had the best surgeon in the area.

To Help Us Help You We Need To Know More Info:

1. What Service Branch; (Reserves Or National Guard)?
2. Are You On Active Duty?
3. Where Are You Located?
4. What Did You Go To The MEB For?
5. Who Is Conducting Your MEB?
6. How Did "YOU" Cancel Your MEB?

1Army (Got hurt in the Spec Forces Qual Course during airborne ops so it is service connected wich that instrument of war b.s.)
2Active
3PCS'ed from Bragg to FortBliss  (currently)
4Originally was referred for l-5 spondylolisis(fracture of par inticulars of the vertabra) and spondylothiesis (slippage of the vertabra off the tailbone)
5IDK the MEB office on base and my PEBLO??? I was referred to by surgeon.
6Got my MEB "suspended" because I opted for surgery because my pain got to bad. So since they would need to put new doc in my narsum they suspended it untill after recover. Basically the Brigade Com (actually it was the DCO) started inquiring how I was scheduled for surgery and was in the IDES system. We spoke he told me to go and tell my peblo and suspend it.
7IDES
8I am going to reactivate my MEB once I have done my 90 day evaluation post surgery. I was told basically i get some sort of special payment for the time I spent where in the hospital, you know couldn't wipe my own ass, or walk or anything like that. First my my SGM who will be changing command before my con-leave is up and two by a good buddy of mine who is still in Bragg finishing up the MEB

Out-come # 1 Inquire if can I get pay for the time I needed a people to babysit me
Out-come # 2 Find out how to apply for social security

You are active duty, collecting active duty pay and went on convalescent leave leave to heal from surgery, and want your wife and others that helped you, to be financially compensated?

Did you make arrangement with tricare for post-operative care? Have you filed a claim with tricare? I'm sure they would want you to show an outflow of money (payments) to your wife and friends. As for SSD, I know nothing about...

Great Info brother. I totally appreciate it man. But what is the Ombudsman? I know I had asked my chain of command about going to WTB and they have been extremely supportive with everything (shocker 11B taking their hurt guys) but I did bust my ass for them and teach soldiers and junior leaders as much as I could before my injury kind of got too bad. As far as I am tracking the Brigade commander wrote a special (extra) memo, supporting me going there and it was turned in a couple weeks ago. Just since con-leave nobody has called and told me anything. Thank you for all the information like seriously you gave me everything I need and then some, it's good to know their are people that got you back when you need. Anyways thanks again and nice ring ;) I was in the 18c course when everything went down all good though, just really wish i could have finished.

You know that I went through "the last hard class right" :D

An Ombudsman is a full time Army Wounded Warrior's Advocate.... (Ft. Bliss, TX 915.742.7057
and 915.742.7138) .... They Can Be Very Helpfull, They Have A Lot Knowledge and They Only Report To The DCS At The Hospital (Mine was a 18 Series CSM (Ret)) GOOD LUCK BROTHER ;)

LOL everyone says that. Honestly I mean it wasn't the easiest thing I've done at parts it sucked no dout, but I was ok. I actually enjoyed it (most of it). I thought some of the mission and field problems I did back when I was in LRS was a bit more stressful you know. I will def give him a call. I was just happy I had the opportunity to advance my career and strive for a goal I had set for my self.

Good for you, Good Luck..God Bless and say hi anytime........
BTW ... Did you know I have more time in a T10 Practice Chute that you have in a T Shirt...LOL ;)

Awesome got to love the crash 10's, always loved jumping and wish the army would one day let me do it again. Thank you and what you do for us man (and what you've done) this process can definitely get confusing and stressful at times. Will do also, I for-see me swinging more questions your way once I finish my 90 day post-op evaluation process and restart my MEB. Hopefully this time around they will have finished with all the legacy guys and I will be able to get my Narsum quicker (they told me it was taking a while because they were trying to knock out all the legacy before I got my surgery).

Ok so technically since a Spinal Fusion is a "fixation" it should be rated unfavorable ankylosis and I should receive 40 % correct? If they try to retake my ROM should i argue the point that it is pointless because my medical file have "spinal fixation". Regardless my ROM in my back is shit now but I know it's only been like 3 weeks since surgery. Being this is the only claim I have because I have never been injured I want to make sure I don't take an ass missile you know.
