Hello, I am an Army medical retiree with 5 years and 10mos of service. 70DOD & 100VA.

I have four conditions rated at 10%, totaling 40% which I believe qualify for CRSC. I have hard evidence(pictures) on only one of the four injuries. The other three only has my subjective narrative on how the injuries occurred.

My question is.. how can I better prepare the CRSC application for a higher chance of approval? Do combative workouts and tactical ruck marches from basic training and OCS count? How helpful are buddy letters? Is it a must? More the better?

Any input is appreciated and thank you in advance.

Sorry about the delay in replies. There tends to be a degree of narcissism on some of these types of forums. I’m guilty as well.

Here’s some resources.

CRSC board will likely need something more than a buddy or lay statement. Those work well with the VA, not so much with CRSC. Such as manifests, commanders report, command statements, injury reports. Medical records that show causation. Need objective evidence.

Workouts, and Ruck marches from basic and OCS would likely fall under physical training. My humble opinion need something substantiating that you were injured per the CRSC criteria such as simulating war or an instrument of war.

I know it's a long shot, but did anyone in your chain of command (E-8/O-3 or above) know some/most/all of what happened to you and can vouch for it? Short of clinical documentation from a military doc, medic, etc, it'll be a hard one to connect the dots, short of the aforementioned statement. I have seen it work on many occasions when clinical documentation is sparse at best. Hope this helps!
