Has anyone here chosen the LDES? I have had over a couple of months to think if I am choosing the IDES or LDES. Everybody chooses the IDES and but I am leaning on the LDES.
 
Why do you want to do the LDES?

The LDES has none of the protections that were baked into the IDES, and you'll leave service without a VA rating.

I feel like people throw the word protections around loosely. "None" of the protections? What does this mean?
Under both LDES and IDES, you still have the core DES protections:


  • An MEB, including the opportunity for an impartial medical review and rebuttal
  • An informal PEB
  • The right to demand a formal PEB if found unfit
  • The ability to appeal the formal PEB
  • Government-provided disability counsel
  • A full and fair hearing before involuntary disability separation
  • Ratings under the VA Schedule for Rating Disability

I want LDES because I want out fast, SPEED boy. The $2000 or so a month from VA was never on my mind, I promise my goals and future won't depend on VA pay, it can wait.

Why do you want an online stranger to explain legal protections to you rather than a JAG that's free for you to use as a service member?

I think I would have to anyway, regardless, this is a forum. Forums are for conversations like this. It seems there's not much of any information on the LDES on here, and when it gets brought up theres rarely any information tied to the forum.
