MEB Process - AGR Air National Guard

My MEB was initiated 5 May 2025 and was disqualified from service on 6 November. Since then I was assigned my PEBLO. With me at this part of the process, is this nearing the end on the MEB process? Sorry to sound so dumb as I'm trying to lineup my next move as a civilian.

I would wait to start lining anything up until after you get your orders. Its even more stressful to land a great civilian job and then not be able to start on it because of delays. You will end up with VA pay and if medically retired possibly more depending on your chapter 61 pension amount and also, CRSC if you apply after getting out. Also, save leave right now and try to save money since there is a gap from when you get out until when you get your first VA check.

So my PEBLO got hold of me today. I have the option of IDES or LDES (Legacy Disability Evaluation System) They say LDES I can be out quicker but is there pros/cons for both?

Tons of cons for LDES. Also not much quicker for LDES. Choose IDES. If you are worried about affecting your VA ratings then select IDES and in the comments state rating for DOD purposes only. Only list the referred conditions if you are trying to protect your ratings.

LDES is the old crappy way where the military gets to rate your conditions instead of the VA. The military tends to rate the same condition lower than what the VA rated that same condition. That is why IDES was created to replace LDES. IDES utilizes the VA for ratings. Also, there are more protections and places to appeal.

I have seen Soldiers choose IDES and get rerated on everything too. That isn't a bad idea either but there is downside risk on the VA ratings. Though if they do get lowered you can always appeal. If the condition isn't rated property and its in IDES you have other protections such as VARR.

So my advice is IDES but only for DOD rating purposes if you are risk adverse. Really the only reason for someone to choose LDES is if they believed their rating was too generous and if looked at by the VA it would get reduced. My personal opinion is that I want the correct rating and that getting rated again isn't that scary so I would just do full IDES. The VA is going to see your current ratings and have all the information already so for most Soldiers their VA ratings stay the same or get increased.

I completely understand if you have 100% P&T and don't want to risk anything though and if that's the case choosing IDES but for only for DOD rating purposes would be the route to go. If you are doing only for DOD rating purposes make sure to only list your unfitting condition. There is no need to rate everything again if the ratings are just to give the military for a DOD% if the condition is found unfit.

Wow. I appreciate the great information. What’s the average timeframe with IDES to get separated?
