MEB vs Regular retirement

Hello everyone!
I am new to the forum. I was told by my medical provider that they were going to put me in for a MEB. I told my provider I had already submitted my paperwork to retire (currently 18 months out). She then gave me the option to just wait for my retirement date or to have her start the MEB process. I am looking for information that is probably already on the page about the differences between the two. I would like this information so I can decide which way out of the military will benefit my family and I best as I finish up my time in service. I am currently an O4 with 24 years of service (prior service). Any information will be much appreciated.
Thanks
