Med board

Hello everyone , a person from Reddit suggested I try this out and so far it seems beneficial. Long story short I’m getting med boarded due to thoracic outlet syndrome and the residuals of the surgery including shoulder issues, nerve damage and scar sensations. I was curious if anyone has ever had my surgery and med boarded and could assist me with what comes next down the road for me and also what my timeline looks like .
TIA

A basic question would be what are your plans do you want to stay in or are you okay with the possibility of severance or medical retirement? I ask as that kinda alters the path forward depending on what your end goal is. If you want stay in service there are ways to fight the board and possibly stay in. If you are okay with getting out then the magic number like many have posted on here is 30% DOD which is the minimum needed for a medical retirement. I wish I could give you more insight on your exact medical issue but I don’t have that experience. I can tell you however that the MEB portion of this they will take all the issues into consideration when doing your NARSUM. The VA percentages feed the DOD ones and the VA will look at the shoulder as a whole and the highest rating is what is rated even if there are more than one issue with it. Like mine I have multiple tears and arthritis and tendinitis but will only be rated on the part that is highest. Each timeline is going to be different unfortunately as no case is the same. I have seen on here cases taking only four months from start to finish and some as long as 18 months. The more things you claim with the VA the more exams and more time it will take to rate. This process can be overwhelming but this forum is a wealth of knowledge and can help ease some of the unknowns.

Hi, I am also in the process of a medboard with similair shoulder conditions as you. I have met with the PEBLO assistant 2 months ago and filled out the claims form with them, but I have yet to meet or speak to my PEBLO. I feel like shoulder issues like nerves/TOS are on the longer end of IDES to get done. I'd be interested to hear if you have any updates on your case.
