Medical retirement and va compensation

Greetings, I hope everyone is doing good.

I have finished my PEB and received a rating of 70%. I have not had my VA physicals yet and I I was wondering how it worked. I was told that my rating will be permanent throught the Active Army. But I really do not understand how the VA works. I do have other ailments that were documented but not found medical unfit for the Army. Will they take my rating from the Army and add to the rating after or will the rating and compensation from the VA be separate? Meaning I might receive two separate checks?

DOD rating and VA rating are totally separate things. Since you will be discharged here soon, you need to head down to your VA office/rep with a copy of your medical records to get that started. "Normally" VA rating will result in a higher rating than DOD.

Good Luck.

So my question is if anybody knows if the VA (after my physicals and receive my rating from them) will take my PEB rating and just add to it or will the VA rating be separate from DOD. Being that I heard you have to sign a VA Waiver of some sort.

Meaning would I have a payment from my medical retirement and VA or just VA? Hmmmmm?

One good thing is that I found the Retiree Relief Act on the this wonderful website and I think I might be elegible for it. If so, this will answer my questions as stated above.[FONT=&quot]

VA ratings and DOD ratings are separate, with that said, if you have 20 yrs and over you can get both VA and DOD payment through CRDP. If you have less then 20 yrs and your injuries are combat related you can apply for CRSC because you would not be eligible for CRDP. Also you can only get either DOD payment or VA payment but not both. VA payment might be higher than DOD if that's the case you can sign a waiver for DOD payment and receive VA payment. Also DOD payment is taxed while VA payment is not.
