Ménière’s disease

Good afternoon/morning everyone. I have just started the MEB process for a Ménière’s disease and chronic migraine diagnosis. I’ve seen a lot of other posts, but I’m not sure if I’m looking in the right place since I am new to this forum.

My ENT and Neurologist are recommending me to be separated due to major safety concerns with my vertigo and hearing loss. My PCM is writing her referral and idk. I guess I’m just anxious about the whole process. Any insight on what the most reasonable outcome would be would be greatly appreciated. And I know everyone’s issues are different and one of a kind to AFPC, but I honestly don’t know if I can continue the military getting vertigo 1-3 times a week and feeling nauseous every day as my meds wear off.

Expect to be found unfit. Start to look at your symptoms and compare them to the VA ratings for both conditions. For unfitting conditions the DOD% is based on what the VA rates that condition. So if your migraines are unfitting and the VA rates them 30% then your DOD percentage for that condition will be 30%. If you have 2 separate unfitting conditions then use a VA disability calculator to see the total combined rating that you may receive. If your unfitting conditions total 30% or greater you will be medically retired which is ideally the result you want since you will have a pension for life and Tricare for life.

I am active duty Air Force...unfit and 100% DoD / 100% VA permanent retired list. Vertigo a couple times per week, diagnosed by multiple ENTs with Menieres. Keep a detailed log of your vertigo attacks. Good luck, like many others, this is a tough condition to manage.

I’ve kept a log so far. Do I need to explain everything or just I had vertigo on this day?

I have a log started. But does it need to be extremely detailed?

That's up to you. I kept mine in a small notebook that I kept on me, and recorded a few sentences for each vertigo attack (where I was, what I was doing, time of day, weather outside, severity of attack). I made copies and offered to show my C&P examiner, and I assume he considered that as some degree of evidence to back up my claims. It also helped me personally, because if I knew I ate the wrong thing or was doing a specific physical motion or it was right as low pressure system was coming in, I'd capture that and make sure I was learning my triggers.

Update:
I took my C&P exams on October 6, 2022
received myFSS email on February 16, 2023
Got signed for my ratings on March 23, 2023
Got orders on April 13, 2023

I was found 100% DoD/100% P&T VA.
I waived my DoD and accepted VA due to it being higher, but I have a question.
On my orders on page 2 it states "DFAS WILL ESTABLISH MEMBER'S RETIRED PAY GRADE."
Does everyone's say this if they were medically retired or is there something different with mine?

I have hit every bump and crack in the road during year long process, so I wouldn't be surprised if something is messed up lol.

Thanks,
Richard
