Navy MDD Timeline

Good Morning. I've used this forum to help me figure out a lot of what's going on, so i figured i'd post my MDD timeline to help others. I'm an Active Duty E6 with 7 years or service.

Basically I was diagnosed with MDD, severe anxiety, and I have 12 other conditions on my VA C&P disability exam. Been hospitalized once, kept for 2 days for monitoring. Been doing weekly psychology appointments, biweekly psychiatric appointments, on my fourth round of meds, and haven't been improving. My NMA basically was from my CAPT saying "He is unfit to continue Naval Service or even work administrative jobs." I was hospitalized in April, and everything has gone downhill since. I had an eval that was signed as of May which put me as "MP", and let me tell you, that's probably the main reason I am having issues currently.

March 10 - First LIMDU Status
April 25 - C&P Exam (The VA nurse doing the exam said she'd be surprised if I wasn't at least 90% and that was without seeing my audiology or mental health results)
May 15th - NARSUM signed and sent off
Sept 17th Findings of PEB " FIT - Presiding Ofcr - Exceptional EVAL 2019 "deckplate leadership" Departmental Career Counselor and taking college courses" SM remains FIT"
OCT 8th - Official Results came back
OCT 10th - Contacted Attorney, advised to submit for change to UNFIT via FPEB

This has been, and continues to be the most stressful experience ever. I'm currently working on a personal statement, statements from LCPO and CMC. A new NMA explaining my last eval, and what has changed since. My eval which should be coming out in November, is likely to be a "progressing" and I've spent 7 months TAD to FFSC doing light administrative duty. I'll be updating as I get further in the process but goodness what a headache.

My first initial thought was did they take 4 months to tell you you’re fit? Also, did you not submit a personal statement the first time around? I’m sorry this is happening to you. I heard the personal statement and NMA has a lot of weight.

Is a personal statement and NMA required during the MEB process? Are they considered a “buddy statement”? What is NMA and MP?

Please clear the air for us folks. Thank you.

My attorney and PEBLO encouraged me to do a personal statement the first time around... which I did. NMA was very specific that I don’t function as a Sailor well, even to the point when I can’t be entrusted with office work... it literally was all because of my previous eval which I find bonkers. Now I’m asking members from my command for personal statements, as well as one from my wife.

NMA is my commands (CAPT) non medical assessment of my abilities as a sailor.

MP is a rating in navy evaluations meaning “must promote” which is the second highest rating of a Sailor under “EP” which is early promote.

OCT 17th - 4 Signed Personal Statements (CMC, LCPO, Spouse, Myself)
OCT 23rd - Signed Formal Appeal for Unfit

Timeline update. The wait begins for my formal appeal.

When were you formally diagnosed with your MH conditions? I am surprised that they found you fit for duty.

I was formally diagnosed in February, but i've seen counselors and therapists since my first deployment. (First therapy session was 2013)

Update:

Today I was informed my Psychologist was deployed. So that's neat. Still no word back from the board on my appeal. This process is the worst.

The numbers are 202-685-6419/2019/6422. Call one of those extensions and just ask if they can provide you with the status of your appeal. They are actually really helpful.

Fairly annoying, I talked to a chief, not a gunny. The PEBLO basically just said "We haven't heard anything from them sorry."

There is this guy named Jeff at the 6422 extension. Maybe call that one tomorrow. He has been the most helpful one

Spoke with a Gunny @ that 6422 extension. Said QA is at a 30 day timeline right now, that's once it leaves the VA and comes back to the PEB.

That Gunny is very helpful. I guess they finished my board on the 7th, just waiting for QA to finish and send out results.

Here we are DEC 6th, still no update. This feels like it's taking SO MUCH longer than it should... Just praying every night for the outcome I want. I feel like it's crazy they're taking this long. I'm easily over 90% with VA, yet they're not sure if i'm fit? Seems bonkers.
