Greetings to all,

I am a CH61 retiree and was approved for CRSC at 80% on November 2024. I am still awaiting a first payment and would like to know if will get any money at all considering my short time in service when converted to AD time?

This is the info I got, feel free to let me know if something else is needed for the calculation.

1. DOD RAS: $2755
2. DOD Disability %: 80%
3.CRSC %: 80%
4. AD Years: 3yr 10m 26d (out of 12 years in the USAR)
5. VA Rating: 90%
6. Rank: SGT

Thanks in advance!

I have no SMC

And no Blended Retirement System

Also even though I am 80% DOD disabled the papers said I am being paid at 75%

CRSC is to help you recoup your earned pension that was lost due to the VA offset. If your chapter 61 pension is higher than that then CRSC will be zero. I based numbers off of being married with no dependents. You didn't tell me if you were single, married or had kids so these numbers will be off if single or married with kids etc. It looks like you should get $95 a month. Basically you haven't been in a long time and so you don't have much of a pension earned to recoup. Your chapter 61 pension at 75% which nets you 2,755 is higher than your Va compensation. So you aren't losing out on the VA offset as much.

My bad haha, single with no kids.

Thank you very much for your quick and detailed response. I was expecting $0 but I am more than happy with whatever they can calculate.

That being said, I still wonder why they have taken so long to calculate my case if it is going to be a very small amount.

CRSC approval letter was dated Nov 1st, 2024, almost 90 days ago.

I can only speak about my personal CRSC experience… when I spoke with a DFAS representative a while back he explained it to me like this… initial payment has no bearing on how fast you will be paid. Your retro payment will take longer if it’s a large amount due to the required number of signatures it needs for release. But back to initial payment… he said anything at DFAS basically gets assigned to a technician. If your case gets a technician that moves slower… well you get paid slower. Also I would imagine the holidays have a lot to do with how long it takes coupled with the sheer amount of people that have recently been applying for CRSC for the first time and getting approved with the PACT Act.

That is because if no dependents your VA compensation is lower and your chapter 61 retirement amount is higher than the total amount of VA compensatoin + longevity pension owed. CRSC in your case is ZERO. You are not losing any compensation owed to you by the VA offset.

One last question and please correct me if I am wrong.

From what I understand based on @Provis last explanation, the only way I will get a payment from CRSC is if I become VA 100%P/T because that would mean that the VA compensation would completely offset my retirement pay and that’s when a CRSC payment would apply?

Once again, Thanks from the bottom of my heart for everything you guys do and all the info and help provided on this forum. Understanding all these different maths and methods the DOD and VA use to calculate pay is a mess hahaha.

Yes if you were 100% VA then the combination of your earned longevity pension + VA disability amount would be greater than your chapter 61 pension. Which would mean that you did lose income due to the VA offset. The most you could get is $359.65 as that is the value of your earned longevity pension. So that is the amount you can get for CRSC if your VA compensation was 100%
