Need some insight please

Hey everyone,

Have a few questions about my MEB that'll most likely start next week. Last January I was having terrible pain in my left kidney. The docs at BAS blew it off multiple times until they eventually ordered a CT scan in March. They found massive hydronephrosis, they then ordered a renal scan and finally diagnosed me with a ureteropelvic junction obstruction in April. I had a laparoscopic pyeloplasty done and on convalescent leave I went to the ER with a kidney infection and massive bleeding in the kidney to the point where they had to put in a nephrostomy tube to drain it. Fast forward to July the same kidney formed a stricture and I underwent another pyeloplasty. I kept experiencing chronic pain and in December they found 3 7mm kidney stones in my left kidney and they did a surgery to remove those. Now I'm in constant pain in my flank and abdomen to the point where I can't do much and I'm basically on a dead mans profile. After every surgery I've been re-admitted to the hospital for a kidney infection (3 times in 6 months). Also every ultrasound/CT they do shows clear hydronephrosis. This last CT also shows a stone in my right kidney .

Sorry for the rant. My question is how are they going to go about rating this? My urologist told me there is severe structural damage from all the surgeries. I'm seeing pain management for the chronic pain and I'm on 3 different pain meds including a medication for the kidney stone recurrence. I've lost about 35-40 pounds, can't sleep from the pain, have no energy and pretty much in a bad place because of this chronic pain. Pain management told me it's chronic visceral pain with possible nerve damage. I'm an 0311 (infantry) in the Marine Corps which means I can't do anything my job entails. Again, sorry for the rant I just want to know I'll be taken care of as I put in a lot of hard work and in the last year my life has flipped upside down. I appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

Your post was NO rant. People here have all lived similar struggles.

I've posted some ratings. You "contention" could be rated in multiple ways.

Thanks Charlie I appreciate it. The original ureteropelvic junction obstruction was classified as congenital even though I have never had a kidney issue in my life. The subsequent infection and chronic pain syndrome all resulted from the surgeries going wrong. Would the DoD view it all as EPTS and try to screw me or since the surgery was done by military doctors would they cover it?

EPTS has to be proved! Even if a contention EPTS it is compensable if it gets worse during military service. How many years do you have on AD?

3 years so I don't fall under the 8 year rule. Any idea what the rating criteria if any there is for chronic post-procedural pain caused by a surgery during activate duty?

JJL1105, I did some reading on this out of curiosity. I have a large EPTS scar on my right leg (~7.5 - 8cm) from a surgery prior, documented, and has caused me trouble due to job nature. Here is what I found, hopefully it helps (and is correct):
