Overwhelmed

So I was referred to the Army Med Board on Feb 2020. Finished my last CnP exam 1st week of March. There are so many things that one has to do while going through this process. Not to mention all of your medical appointments. How in the world can a soldier go through the Med Board, go to his medical appointments, SFL TAP, and on and on. And still expect the soldier to manage his daily tasks as a full time soldier?? I was asked by my Commander if I had done this and that. And I replied that its been impossible because I've been pretty much out of the office for X,Y and Z. I suggested that we bring someone in to help me because I can't manage or be in two places at once. And her reply was," you're still on the books and getting paid to manage both. You must". I simply replied that ill continue to manage both to the best of my ability like I have been. I guess this is why soldiers are sent to WTU. But I guess my question is, what if any leeway does a soldier have when going through a Med Board??

Hey I'm currently in the MEB process (just sent up my Narsum) and I was in the same boat. I started scheduling SFL-TAP workshops, appointments, etc., and whatever work that was not complete just did not get done (until I had time). Eventually they found me a replacement but I now have the label of "dirtbag," even though I have never had any disciplinary or work related issues my entire career. My command climate is not the best though. I figured it just comes with the territory. I look at it like this, at least in my unit, most of my leadership only cares about soldiers being on time for formation and not doing anything that will make them receive a phone call from their boss. They do not care about me. They don't give a damn about where I will be in a 2-3 months once my career is over. So do everything to take care of yourself. As long as you are making legit appointments, they really can't say anything (maybe they can but my leaders just badmouth my name and I keep doing what I have to do).

You should have plenty of time to do sfl tap. I did mine early around 9-10 months before my retirement date. From what I recall it was round 8 hours of tap classes. You can do them online at your leisure.

Remember you don’t have to do everything at once.

Thanks buddy. I'm glad you are driving through. Yes its tough. I tell myself that I need to take care of myself because ill soon be out and no one will be there to take care of me but me. I guess it just comes with the territory. We give so much to the military throughout the years and all we ask is for the military to look out for us in return but they turn theirs backs. Sad to admit but that's the truth.
