How does a periodic assessment work on TDRL if you are discharged at an older age? Is it condition related? Like if a 45 year old gets a PEB unfit TDRL will they still have to get looked at again in a few years? When is the first review, when is the last one? I think SSDI stops periodics after a certain age. Or would you be more likely to get PDRL as a 45 year old vs a 25 year old? Or does age not matter for PDRL TDRL? Hope this makes sense.

TDRL is only 3 years. If they don't change you to PDRL within that 3 years you fall off and lose your retirement entirely.
What branch are you in? For Navy and Marines you need to be more proactive. If Army or Air Force they are pretty good at not losing track of people as long as they keep their contact information current. Most that are on TDRL are because of mental health. Seek treatment through the VA and do so regularly so that your branch can decide if your condition has stabilized and they may not even need you to come in for an exam. If you stop seeking treatment or fall through the cracks and miss a TDRL exam you lose everything. No chapter 61 pension or tricare.
Going through reeval myself now... age doesnt matter what matters is active years. If youre 20 or up you qualify for CRDP. TDRL will only review conditions that arent static and only conditions that are on your Category 1 AF365 for air force or 199(dont remember the number) for other branches.
TDRL is 3 years max. They have to reevaluate you at least once every 18 months(mine kicked off at 12 months into TDRL). You can be moved to PDRL or separated at any one of those reevals or kept on TDRL. At 3 year mark they have to make a determination. You can use the attorneys to possibly argue for the move to PRDL at FPEB or summary judgment.
Bottom line, keep seeking treatment as they are going to want documentation. Also keep track of your case as in if they dont reevaled you in last 18months you ought to send them an email. Also do use the attorneys they give you - I had a lot of good interactions with AF ones - at least they can look at your file and give more accurate advice.
Lastly not sure if you lose anything if you go beyond 3 years. They may stop benefits until you undergo the reevaluation.
