I am currently a type 2 diabetic and have a torn mainscus in my left knee have a p2 for my knee and have a p3 for my diabetes. The diabetes went from being a temp to a perm in less than a month. The Colonel that signed off it has never seen me or screened me just the PA that works in the Regimental Aid Station. I am currently in ALC which the PA said that I would not pass which i am about to graduate but over the last couple of days found out about a pending MEB. I have no idea what I need to do prepare for it and what to expect. I found out roughly a year ago about being a diabetic and had to change medicine from metformin in March of this year to Genuvia. I took my A1C in May of this year and it was a 7.7 and before i came to this school it was checked again and it was a 7.0. Here's the thing I am in standards so I thought but now I am being told that my levels have to be at 7.0 or lower off the medication. This makes no sense to me because the last I heard Diabetes is a disease and has no cure but can be MANAGED with good diet and exercise. I feel like I am being jerked around here and I want to know what course of actions to take to prepare for this. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, first off all just relax a little. I found out I was DMII in March 2010. I also have had 3 surgeries on my left shoulder. I have recently found unfit, but the process is fairly painless. If you have surgery on your knee, there is no guarantee that you will be unfit as the diabetes is not an unfitting diagnosis. I know it is a little stressful in the beginning, but it will all work out just fine either way. Just make sure you have everything documented and keep all of your appointments. The process, other than being a little long, is very simple on your behalf. There will be some VA and QTC exams you will have to attend, but other than that, the PEBLOs take care of everything else. Make sure to stay up to date on this forum and ask questions. Also, ask any questions that you have at any time to you VA rep and your PEBLOs. I hope this helps.

Hey thanks for the information what do you think my chances for staying in will be with all the cutbacks. Also i am going to schedule a sleep study when i get back to home station because i don't sleep well anymore and i am up and down all night but just grew to get used to it. What will happen with this

It kind of just depends on how that knee affects you ability to perform your duties. They deem fit or unfit based on your ability to perform the duties of your rank grade and office. The biggest question is can you still do your job? If you can and you want to stay in, there is a reasonable chance you will be found fit.
