a little background on me...
2001: lower lumbar fusion L4-L5 with disc replacement.
2002: informal med board. results were 20% with severance. I declined and went to Lackland AFB for a formal hearing. Received a return to duty.
2004: deployment
2005: deployment
2006: deployment
2007-present: no deployments.
now i am going through another MEB for my back and also PTSD. As of right now i need to complete a ROM test with PT for my back. Afterward i should be be waiting for my informal results.
So my question is...giving this past history what should i expect. i am hoping for a retirement, but my base isnt known for med retiring folks.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

As far as the back is concerned the ROM is very important. If you had 20% before for the back and assuming that remains the same, then you will need at least an additional 10% for any other condition (PTSD) to hit 28% (30% for retirement).

You have to make sure that all ratable conditions are included in your MEB package before it goes to the IPEB.

You need to take charge of this right now.

That sucks dude. I feel for you on that one. I will put this in barney terms for you:

When it comes to backs in the military = THEY DONT CARE and will LOWBALL whenever they can. So, with that being said you wil go to a C&P exam @ the VA if in the pilot program. Or PT etc. They rate based on ROM. Usually based off your forward extension. What this means is, if you can touch your toes - Game Over. It's they way it is. I have major pain in my back from an injury in combat and I am probably only getting 20% @ best.

However, for your PTSD if it is documented it is an automatic 50% minimum if found unfit for the condition by the PEB.

If you have pain in your back only bend as far as you can. Dont be a hero and fight the pain. If you fight the pain and bend you are cured according to the military. No better way to put it imo.

I had my ROM today and I asked the Dr what the results were. Her reply..."not good". she then asked what i planned on doing when i got out of the military, how many years of service...so with that being said, this was the last stop before my package goes to AFPC. wish me luck
 
well after many months of no answers i finally got somewhere today. My old doctor took over as commander and just put my MEB to the side until the new Dr came in. I talked with her today and she stated it would be done by the end of next week. Also she gave me my range of motion test results which my old Dr would not. With that being said, here is what she gave me.

front flexion: 12
front extension: 10
left lateral flexion: 10
right lateral flexion: 10
left lateral rotation: 22
right lateral rotation: 26

these are the results of a three test average. Looking at these numbers came anybody provide some insight as to what i can expect?
 
Assuming this is for your back, that should equal 40%.
 
i just found out today i will be promoting. Do i have to have the rank on in order to retire at that rank? or do i just need to have a line number?
 
Update: I met with my PEBLO on 21 July to go over the NARSUM and I will admit my doctor did an outstanding job!!!! I was happy with the way she wrote everything and painted a clear picture for the board folks.

27 July 2011: My package was reviewed by the local board here at Ramstein with a referal to the informal board. With overseas bases not intergrated into the fast track program i was told 2-4 months for a final decision. i am hoping for a med retirement so i can continue my treatment if i get out. I will update as the progress continues
 
My PEBLO really hasnt been too helpful. I recieved a copy of my medical records and was wondering if i should go to the VA and get the ball rolling with them before my decision from the IEB comes back? any suggestions on the next path or do I just wait?
