Have you done a VA Exit Interview? If so, what is it all about? Got mine scheduled for next Wednesday.
All my VA rep did was go over my VA benefits and had me fill out a dependents form, bring in birth certificates and SS cards for my dependents and my marriage certificate. At that time, you can also apply for voc rehab if you plan on doing that.

I don't have my orders but my vMPF updated that I have a projected assignment from my base to my base with a RNLTD of 29 Dec 2012. Is that safe to assume that is my retirement date?

Not yet. I am hoping that I will hear today. The president of the PEB received it, for signature, last Monday. I am hoping that it got sent to the PEBLO this weekend.
Ok, two questions:
1. How long are orders taking? I've been waiting two weeks now and my PEBLO has been hounding my case manager and all my case manager keeps saying is I'll have them done by Thanksgiving and now its the end of this week.
2. How do I make sure my dependents are reflected with the VA?
I did my out brief last Wed and all they did wsa make sure I understood my ratings. Nothing was asked about my dependents.

Once i got my separation date i got orders 1 day later. Actually 3 hours but with the time difference from states to Japan not exactly sure.

First, congrats! As for dependents, you should have had a meeting with your VA MSC to final out, at which point he/she has you fill out a form listing your dependents. You also have to bring in SS cards, birth and marriage certificates.
