Question about IPEB and VA ratings

Hello all,

my question is this, I am currently waiting for the results from the IPEB, which I signed and sent off my paperwork on March 8th. On the e-benefits website, it has two claims posted, one open compensation claim that states "Pending Decision Approval," and a historical regulatory or procedural review which states "Decision Notification Sent" and also says appeal possible. First question is what do these two things mean and where is my package currently at in the timeline process, and second, does this mean that I was found unfit and the VA has rated my conditions and sent it back to the PEB? One more question is does the VA still rate you if you're found fit? Thanks for any answers in advance.

Andy,

If you are undergoing the IDES system, the VA won't rate your case until you have been rated UNFIT by the PEB. If you the PEB had found you fit, they would have just notified you that you were FIT and action would have ceased at that point (unless you appealed the FIT findings).

Call the VA or use their website to put an inquiry into the case status for your two claims. They can give you all the information you need to know about where in the process your claim currently is, although they most likely can't release actual ratings to you until your case is closed and you'll have to get those from your respective service.

As for the two status messages, I'm fairly certain after pouring over these boards that the Pending Decision Approval means they've come to a proposed rating and are getting the service unit's approval on it. If someone with more knowledge could confirm or deny that I would appreciate it.

I'm in the exact situation, Andy. A closed claim out of Cleveland that says "Decision Notification Sent" and another out of Baltimore that says "Pending Decision Approval." To anyone responding to his post: Does anyone know how long it takes for the notification to get here? Does it have to go back to the IPEB first? Is it snail mail or a digital thing?

I'm on the exact boat as you guys. I spoke to my PEBLO about my status on Ebenefits and she said that it is going back to your service PEB to concur or not on their preliminary ratings.

Called the PEB office in DC today, and found out that my case was sent to the VA rating board on March 16th, so unless I'm mistaken, this means I've been found unfit! This is such good news, I'm going out to celebrate tonight! It's been a long 3yr process, fighting with Navy doctors and finally I'll be able to move on.

Condradulations and Good Luck Brother :)

As for calling the PEB office in DC, do they mind if you call? I just figured everything would have to go thru your PEBLO....Also, how long did it take to get your decision?

I haven't received my decision officially yet, I just called the number in DC and explained I was just calling to check the status and they said it was sent to the VA rating board and they were waiting for it to come back. My package was sent off on the 8th of March, and was sent to the VA for rating on the 16th of March, so, it took roughly a couple of weeks for them to get my package, and make a decision. I also only had one unfitting condition and no additional claims, and I'm in the Navy IDES system, I hope this info helps and thanks for the congrats.

Awesome i spoke with them today, they say my package was sent to the VA yesterday for rating! That means UNFIT correct?

That's what it means as far as I know. If they send it to the VA, it means that you were found unfit and now they send it to the VA to be rated. If anyone knows otherwise, please let us know, thanks.

I went through the PEB initiated in NOV11 with finalization in MAR12. The VA was NOT involved in the PEB process. Does anyone know if the PEB shares this info with the VA or do I need to supply the VA with all the documentation that the PEB had?
I had originally sent the PEB a nice clean stack of documentation seperated by medical issue with bright orange labeled paper. When th PEB sent the records back they were no longer seperated. It was all packed into a medical folder. Is it recommended that I send it off to VA in the same order that the PEB used it or should I restack it by order of medical conditions.

Also, double check any work done by VSOs. I had a claim submitted in SEP11 that was supposed to be a Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) only to find out later that it was on the wrong VA form and nothing has been started as of today. Remember BBD is for 0-180 days out. Quick Start is 0-60 days out. Both are filed on the VA 21-526c

Thank you!

I was told everything had to be seperated and in order by date. I was later told I just needed to turn it in and they will seperate it the way the want it done. This cost me the BDD but I did make the Quick Start. The VA didn't want anything from the PEB (if I remember properly), only my medical records. They got my medical record half sorted and the rest tossed together, I'm probably going to pay for that.
