Ratings for DDD with S1 radiculopathy

Im sure you are not in the Army because it takes us forever to get back ratings. I started my MEDBOARD same time you did and im still just waiting to get back if im unfit or not.
Sorry about that, but yes I am in the Army. Do you have an attorney?

Starting MEB is a vague figure. When did you sign your narsum?
Narsum to unfit is usually a couple of days, but then it goes to a Pre-Va QA phase. You may not hear from anyone for a couple weeks. For me, my PEBLO told me day in and day out that I wasnt found unfit yet.
July 22? Called her supervisor and he said i was found unfit July 1. But the PEB hadn't fully entered it yet.

August 15th signed Narsum
August 19th ipeb completed
August 24th va completed
August 31st signed da form 199

Wow this is super fast. I signed my Narsum on August 10th and was found unfit (not sure on what) on August 26th and now just waiting on ratings. I'm Army at Ft Benning. Congrats!

I was just over 2 months from Narsum to 199. Congrats!

How did you get the DOD to separate the radiculopathy? I was rated 40% DOD 90% VA but put on TDRL for degenerative disc disease, and have my FPEB scheduled for 23 September. I asked my PA for an EMG and he stated that IDES is telling them to not do anything that legal counsel is recommending to soldiers who are trying to add or increase conditions/ratings. My main goal is to get on the permanent list, any advice would be great.

Mine was lumped together but I submitted an IMR and they were separated from my back pain though I had and EMG nerve conduction done. If your provider is denying you EMG, go through another provider for second opinion.

Then go to another doctor. its YOUR retirement, YOUR body and YOUR choice....

Retirement orders in hand! 24 more days and I will be on PTDY and Terminal leave.

Awesome!! Congratulations!! Enjoy your well earned retirement and all that comes next for you!

Is it common to be rated 20% for DDD without radiculopathy? I am asking because this is occurring to me and they totally didn't add it to the ratings but noted it in the narsum.

Also if they do end up giving me radiculopathy would it be separated from the DOD? I'd separated will it still be carried as a secondary issue to the back and help me be medically retired?

That is crazy fast for turn around time did you claim anything else or just your referred conditions?

If I may ask, did PEB find your lumbar radiculopathy unfit? If yes, then DOD should apply the VA rating to your unfit condition and with the DDD, you should get a medical retirement.

They will rate them separate and permanent. When I was retired via PEB I received 30% for DDD and 10% for radiculopathy, both permanent. At the time I had 7 or 8 back surgeries and have had 2 more since retirement. To include a spinal chord simulator and as of late a fusion. Have it documented at the clinic, I have an excel spreadsheet of my visits, surgeries and treatments for my back with over 50 lines. The shitty thing is that my doc did not use the fancy protractor to measure my ROM and had me go past the position of pain, I'm currently in the process of trying to get a re evaluation. Good luck and best of luck to you.

Did you have the radiculopathy from the start or did you fight to get it added as an unfitting?

They added radiculopathy but not as a unfitting condition which is in my opinion wrong because it stems from the DDD
