Seeking help with MEB

All,
I am 17.5 yrs in the AF and getting MEB’d for pain medication that I no longer take. Med clinic says if I don’t take the pills, no MEB, simple right? Wrong, my Capt is doing a full blown investigation into everything. I have fibromyalgia, which she is now trying to get me booted for, even though I can perform all of my work and am able to deploy. I’m an E-7 so it’s mostly desk work. I haven’t taken a full PT test since 2013, which the clinic is fine with...but not my Capt.
Questions:
1. Can I be MEB’d for things other than what the MEB was originated for?
2. Is there a magic number of service to where you cannot be removed easily from the service? I’ve heard 18 requires the SECAF signature to boot somebody, but cannot find it in writing. I knew a guy who was returned to service with MS. He was out of work for 6 mths of the year.
3. What are the appeals processes?

Steve

This will help with most of your questions. also review and highlight the AF Medical Standards directory.

Unfortunately the 18 year mark does not apply to an MEB (This is known as sanctuary) however if found unfit you will have to work with your PEBLO and the Office of Airman's Counsel to apply for Limited assignment status if approved you stay to 20...

Havey ou analyzed what is going on between you and the captain? Does your captain understand fibromyalgia? You may want to have your PCM talk with your captain. the MEB/PEB process is slow, but that is because it has many checks and balances. Use the check and balances to your benefit in terms of years of service.

What do you mean analyzed what is going on? She goes full bore into everything making the simplest thing the most complicated thing ever. Most people including myself believe that she hates them. My Doc is good with my current situation and is supposed to have a conversation with the Capt about my situation. No my captain does not understand Fibro. Today, I got the upholding standards speech, and not being able to take a PT test is not conforming to standards. The PEBLO said I should have nothing to worry about, but this Capt is like a piece of dynamite...she explodes over everything.

Yeah I have a Lt. Col that is the same way... and in a year she has decimated the whole flight.... all the experience gone... and on the resources glad I can help. I'm in the waiting for ratings stages.

Got an update. I have to do a functionality test for my career field (run 100ft & lift 40 lbs over my head). Once that’s done. This MEB can go away. Then onto the next MEB for vertigo systems in a few weeks once the results come back. They’re checking for a tumor. If I have that surgery/ear canal removal.

Good Luck!

at least your still active and not a reservist/guardsman.... I was active reserve and was removed for conditions that were "waivered" now I have to depend on the VA, and attempting to correct the mistakes... I shouldn't of been waivered if the intent was to remove me with 15 years active service.... now we have to do this the hard way.
