Severance pay - what happens next?

From how I understand the rules, if I take the severance pay that I got offered for my depression from the AF, I will not be able to make a claim to the VA for the same disability for any more compensation. Am I right on how I read this rule?

If I am correction: if I were to take the severance pay and go make a claim to the VA about a different disability (my sleep apnea), will I be able to collect both a Severance for the depression and a VA claim for the sleep apnea?

No, you can (and should) make a claim. It is just that, in the absence of a combat related finding and/or having 20 years or more of service, that you will have an offset of your VA compensation until the full amount is "recouped." Thereafter, you will receive full compensation from the VA.

Claim all of your conditions with the VA.
