Sleep apnea test after C&P exams

Hello all! I will be getting my sleep study conducted after receiving my C&P exams. The VA rep was telling me I can get it added after the fact. Does any one know if it is something that can be done before getting out or is this something I will have to do after I am out? Thank you for your help in advance.

Its not a MEB issue so it can be included as a service-connected condition when you are out.

There is an expedited process for recently discharged veterans so the process shouldn't take long.

Thanks Chaps_Z. How does that process work? Do they just add it at the VA or do they send it back off for ratings? Thank you very much.

I filed a claim 22DEC2017 and it is still open. I entered an LOD IDES process on 21JUN2018. MSC at the VA said he could not include it even though I ask to have it added on the Joint DoD/VA form. It will just have to run its course at this point I guess. Today I received an unexpected email from AFPC asking for preference on my retirement certificate. And, I also received an email from AFDOD asking for feedback on the MEB and PEB process. I am thinking the IPEB has made an action yet my PEBLO is on vacation until 10SEP18. I will try to wait until next week before making some phone calls.

50crushplan, as soon as you have your DD214 and settle in a location, work with the local VSO and get the expedited claim.

They will help you do the paperwork and they have direct access to the VA system and can track it.

Once they get the needed paperwork and/or tests all done, it will be decided on then it will be added into your other rating and combined with their magic VA math.

It will just be your new claim (like the apnea) that is examined and rated.

Again, the VSO is the way to go. Just google your location or closest city and VSO and it will get you started. They are usually in court houses or government office spaces.

The main thing is to get it done while still on Active Duty since there is no question that it is service connected. If you can't it done before you leave Active Duty the VA has a 1 year window after you leave that it is presumed to be service connected. Always good when dealing with the VA to have some proof of service connection.

If you have the results of the sleep study in hand, you can file for OSA benefits. Here is the process: https://www.benefits.va.gov/fdc/

You don't have to wait.
