SSDI Reconsideration

I am currently at the tail end of my MEB/PEB phase and am almost out of the military. I have a proposed rating of 100% P&T from the VA. I applied for SSDI in December and was denied. I filed for reconsideration and am still in limbo.

I understand that SSDI has different standards for disability than the VA. However, I don't understand how I could have been denied. I've had four major surgeries in an 18 month time frame, 3 hip and 1 shoulder, and am scheduled for one more shoulder surgery. What job was I physically capable of? I was transferred to a Warrior Transition Battalion strictly because I couldn't do any job. I had surgeries back to back, with limited recovery periods.

I know there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum. I need some encouragement and advice. What do I do at this point? It seems ridiculous that the SSDI claim was denied. I feel defeated.

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Indeed. Hmm, out of curiosity, were you able to or did you obtain a complete copy of your SSA SSDI case file from the local SSA Field Office?

As such, the aforementioned inclusive SSA documentation provides the necessary detailed information as to exactly "why" the SSA DDS probably didn't recommend a "disabled" determination to HQ SSA for their final approval/denial decision.

At this point, I would offer that you continue to follow-up with the SSA as to the status of your SSDI reconsideration unless you have already retained the services of a seasoned SSA attorney. If so, then contact the SSA attorney for specific status updates concerning your SSDI reconsideration submittal. Take care!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Best Wishes!
